63 gear ratios
Just curious if there is a site listing ‘63 rear end ratios. I did a search here, and surprisingly only found one pertinent thread, but it was on a slightly different topic, so did not mention all the ratios.
Anyway, I just put a tach in my car. The guy who sold me the car has told me it has 3.30 rear gears. Well, I’m showing closer to 2.70. My tires 225/60/15, are 25.6” tall At 60 mph I’m at about 2200rpm At 70, about 2500 rpm I’ve verified my speedometer is accurate. With my automatic transmission that would put me around 2.70’s as far as rear end ratio. Thanks

My 63 came with a 2.69. All the ratios are listed in the shop manual.

When I get time Ill crawl under there and see if I can get the code. I never have much luck finding those though. My money would be on the 2.69 at this point based on the rpms Im seeing.
This is actually GOOD news in my case, as Im using this car as a cruising vehicle, and live in a rural area. It wont be uncommon for me to put 100-200 miles a day on it, so highway gears are fine with me.

Confirmed today that it’s a 2.69 ratio. It’s stamped “L”.
Good news for me.

What info equates 2.69 ratio to the letter L? The only "code" on the page I posted for a 2.68 rear end was "BD".
I'm not arguing, I'm just always looking for more sources of information.

The guy who I bought the car from had put a bunch of boxes in the trunk when I bought it. I left them in there seeing as how I was going to be moving and such. I totally forgot it was in there till now, so I dug it out, and sure enough, it had the 63 codes.
