Default Vacuum pump choices

Thinking of adding a vacuum pump to my IA motor.
GRZ, Star, Moroso-pros cons to the different ones. Car wil nto be getting lots of runs just a few outings a year.

I just took mine off, I drive more on the street and go to the track a couple times a year. I have it adjusted down about as far as I can and if I drive any distance like 100 miles or so It will fill the tank and oil will come out the top vent. So if you drive any distance keep an eye on it.

Ive heard good reviews about the GZ pump. Also looking at the AeroSpace pump. I know a couple people working there as they are local to me.

I use a Star Machine sportsman pump..SD provided the pump, mandrel, catch tank, fittings, hoses, belt brackets and bolts . It works well pulls a good vacuum..I may get an ounce of oil after a 200 mile round trip and a few passes at the track.

A 200 mile trip will spray oil down the side of the car. At 60 - 65 on the highway it pulls about 8" of vacuum and the relief valve is adjusted all the way out.

Cylinder Head drainback issues? Sorry for getting off track. I just installed for this year the Moroso enhanced 4 vane. Nice piece. Pulls vac immediately. Mandrel and pulleys from Butler. I got good deals on the tank and hoses from Amazon.

Can't go wrong with a moroso pump. It will pull as much vacuum as you need or more then you need. All depends on how good engine is sealed up.

Pulling from a valve cover breather like header vac breathers with a baffled grommet OK or pull too much oil?

That was how I did it at first... never had a problem with it that way.. I personally just never liked the way it looked, so I welded in a bung.

Here is a fun question....

How much vacuum is every one pulling?

In my car on the analog gauge I'm right around 15 " at the stripe... on the dyno with a transducer (digital sensor) it was only pulling upper 7's...

Now I have put a grid module to record it during the run on the track and it is reading the same as the dyno... 7.8-7.9" at the stripe...

So I'm guessing the analog gauge is incorrect..

Just wondering if anyone else has checked this?

Chad

On my street car I run the modified Butler version , I think it was a converted smog pump. One valve cover plugged, pulls from the other side to a moroso breather tank. Has always worked pretty well
