Aftermarket gauges
Since my car is not a matching numbers car and has some custom touches, I am interested in getting aftermarket dash gauges.
My car does not have a wiring harness yet, deciding to get the car painted first or install the wiring harness before paint. Either way, I would like to replace the old dash gauges. I would like any suggestions, brand or thoughts from you all who have already replaced them. Advantages and disadvantages, good and bad. Are there any functions on the originals that are not on the aftermarket gauges? I do not want another set of gauges hanging off the bottom of the dash or mounted on the tunnel. Thanks

I like the look of factory rally gauges myself. I bought all new harness as well so it was just a plug and play setup. However that is the most expensive way to go.
If that is not an option I like https://www.speedhut.com/. |

I have gauges from New Vintage USA in Cutlass and my '73 T/A clone. I'm sure how different the 67-68 are from the 69, but they offer this mounting bracket for the 69 http://newvintageusallc.mybigcommerce.com/69-firebird/ I was the beta-tester for their 70-81 Firebird set, last year. So I know they are expanding their product line.
The set in my Cutlass had some minor issues awhile back, basically some of the lights quit working. They offer a 5 year warranty, but these were about 7 years old at the time. They had me send them all back. They did not just repair the bad lights, but totally reworked all the gauges, updated them to the newest technology, and sent them back at NO COST to me! OUTSTANDING customer service.

I went with Autometer gauges that had wrning lights built in. At teh time they only had a few designs availble with this feature. I'm sure they have more by now. Or maybe an different mfgr.

I fitted Dakota VHX as I wanted a tach in the cluster not on the hood. I would have liked original but that would have been a lot more expensive to do. I am pleased with the result and used the original pointed lenses not the cheap flat ones that came on the gauges.

When I had the engine in my 75 Trans Am replaced I added the three standard gauges under the dash. In deciding what direction I'll take my 69 Firebird, I was planning to install the 69 stacked gauges I've been hoarding for some time. After much consideration, I've decided to sell the stacked gauges and install idiot lights. When your idiot light turns red, you'll know it immediately. With gauges, you might miss something for a few minutes. I guess I really don't mind the look of the three gauges under the dash... all my cars I had in the 70's had them.
