I'm rockin' a white '75 Trans Am with a 400 and th350. It's currently getting bored 30 over with a Comp XE268 cam, #13 heads and a bunch of other goodies. I'm also switching to a 3.08 rear from an '81 TTA and I'm switching the front end to a '72.

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy.

I have a silver 75TA 400,4speed I purchased new. The car has 77000 miles with no rust or dents, however the paint on the top and hood was very faded so I am in the process of a total rebuild. I replaced the original motor with a motor that I rebuilt from a wrecked 68 GTO about 1978. I drove that motor about 55000 miles. I still have the original motor with only 22000 miles still setting in my shop. I have finished another rebuild on my 68 motor bored 30 over,Eagle rods and Eheads and a lot of other goodies that I hope to put in the car tomorrow. Then the car goes back to the paint shop to finish the paint. I hope to have it ready for the 03 power tour.

I have a couple of cars which I don't drive and are awaiting restoration. These include a wrecked 73 T/A red 4-spd a/c, and a 74 SD455 T/A. I also have a nice red SD455 T/A.

The car I drive is a red 74 T/A 455 with red interior. I am the second owner, it was off the road for fifteen years before I bought it due to engine problems. The owner and his mechanic ended up in court over the car. The owner spun a rod bearing back in 77 or so, and had an engine builder put it back together with a Ram IV cam. After the car would start to warm up, a couple of lifters would start making a horrible racket. The mechanic blamed it on the cam, so the owner paid the guy to install a stock cam. With the new cam, it still made the noise, so the owner parked the car and went to court.

I bought it in 1995. Upon checking it out, I found it had several bent pushrods. I replaced them and solved the problem for a few years. Then, on the coldest day of the year here in NC, my wife's car wouldn't start. She decided to drive the T/A, cranked it and raced the engine at 10 F, and sheared the oil drive rod. Luckily she cut it off before any severe damage occurred.

I had another 74 455 with low miles already out. I freshened it up with a mild Wolverine cam, fresh valve job, and dropped it in. I also installed the flowmaster exhaust system that uses the one muffler behind the rear axle. I selected the cam based on an engine dyno program. It has an incredibly flat torque curve, but peak HP occurs at only 4300 RPM. It is a blast to drive on the street.

It is probably a #4 condition, but the body is excellent. Paint is dull and the interior shows some signs of wear. I have a 15 year old son, and I'm hoping to do an amateur restoration over the next few years.

Well, I suppose I should update this since the last time I responded to this (btw I was the first to respond to this topic) was way back on May 12, 2000.

A few things have changed... mainly that the car is no longer white, but in fact rather black. I did it up like a LE or SE, put Hurst t-tops in it, and all the gold interior goodies.

I have also since put the 455 (462) in it and decided against the overdrive automatic transmission.

Also, I'm still working on that Web page that I mentioned, but the address has changed to http://www.sensible-net.com/kevin/
You can see lots of pics of my car as well as of my fiance's '78 T/A that we are working on (under "Noelle's T/A").

Later,
Kevin

I recently aquired a black 76 455 4speed T/A. The block is out of a 1970 big car, but everything else looks to be original. Supposedly a fresh performance rebuild on the motor, tranny, and rear, but I havent received any verification yet.
It's in about #2 condition right now, but I'm pretty sure I can get it to a solid #3 with just a little time and effort.
I havent played with any second gens since high school, and no f-bodys at all in about 12 years. I'd forgotten how cool these cars are!

My Trans Am is a 1976. Originally a 455/4 speed, it left the factory Starlight Black with black deluxe interior.
During its life the car has lost a few parts, due to careless previous owners, no doubt. I believe the car was imported to Australia without the 455 and 4 speed, as it was originally converted to Right Hand Drive and set up as a 350 Chev with TH350 auto. Its currently painted light blue. I've been doing a driving restoration on this car since I bought it, my aim is to have a reliable daily driver. I plan to restore it properly a few years down the track.
I had a lucky find the other day, a fellow Trans Am owner who had the bad luck to write-off his 74 T/A. If things go well, I might be able to buy the wreck ... which has a 455 and a 12 bolt Posi.
I also have a very tidy 1970 Camaro RS/SS with TPI 350/4 speed and 12 bolt posi.

Leigh

I fly in a 1976 Firebird Esprit. 350 v8 engine 3 speed auto trans. It has a 2bbl Rochester carb which has been giving me problems since I bought it.
I've only had it a few months, so I haven't had the time to do a 1/4 mile run.

Red interior and exterior, without the tail fin.

It has a lot of work to get it to where I want it, but the price was right when I bought it ($550), so I couldn't pass up the opportunity for this classic birdie.

I'm the original owner of a 76 TA. Black on white. 455 4spd car. Other than the 455 option ordered very few other options. Tinted glass, conveneince light package, roof drip rails and chrome trim package. 24,350 showing on the odometer. In the process of redoing it now. Sat outside covered for 1 1/2 years, in South Carolina. Rusted up the undercarriage somewhat. Trying to get the motor together currently. Under side is done, interior needs minor touching up and a paint job.

I just picked up a 76 trans am that was sitting in a field for 4 years with no shaker on it... Water all through the carb. oatmeal looking substance in the intake Edelbrock intake and carb by the way. Rust in the intake ports on the head rust on the massive rocker arms, i cant get the engine to move, the lady that told me to go pick it up said it was a new crate motor when she parked it in that cursed field 4 years ago, but it dosent move. The parts dont even look like they've ever moved, the odometer says 09,514 so i dont know... the body is all screwed up and i don't know if it's a pontiac motor at all, but i hope it is. It's been repainted at least once, the origional- Whatever color Maroonish Red- and the block is a strange light bluu, along with the water pump and the valve covers look like they also want to be the same color, but nature got to them... If this motor dosen't work out, i've got a 472 sitting in the garage all lonely, and built up as much as it can be... Evil thoughts Evil thoughts

Wow, there is allot of 76's on this thread,
I currently daily drive a 1971 White with black standard Trans Am. Original 455ho and 4 Speed are long gone. Replaced with a 1970 formula ys 400 and matching t-400. 3.73 posi keeps me in the gas station line but it is fun to drive.

I have a 1975 Pontiac Trans Am. I bought it about a year ago for $800 (a really good deal from a friend). It was dark blue when i bought it and it,s is now Cosmic Blue. I changed the stock 2.56 gears in the rear end to 4.10s, put a B&M shifter and shift improver kit on the tranny, and rebuilt the motor in the past 4 months. the motor now has about 9 to 1 compression with a comp 268H cam, roller rockers, and MSD ignition. I havent been to the track yet, but i am hoping to be turning mid to high 13s. Next week i am going to put my decals on it and it will look even better.
