Thanks John! Great info, as usual. I spent a lot of time on your website back in my 71 GTO days.

I think the second window sticker is a reproduction. The one I posted at the top of the thread is an original.

831 is the Pontiac code while 583 is the Fisher code.

Another question on Pat's car. The PHS shows it had the D98 option: STRIPES-ACC. What color would they have been on this car and were they the ones that ran down the front fender, across the door and the turned up on the sail panel - or were they the ones that ran lower on the body?

Stripes that were on fender and door. Standard colors for Fire Coral Bronze would have been Cream/Orange/Dark Brown.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of; thanks. If only I had a car to put them on....?

Who from PY lives up in Philly that might go take a look at this car for me? Doesn't Ram4King live in Philly?

Pat and I were talking about this car via Text. I asked the question about the radio antenna that is fender mounted on his car whereas mine had the antenna in the windshield. I thought all 74s had the windshield mounted antenna. Were there some that had a clear windshield with the fender-mounted antenna and if so, what was the determining factor?

Shout out to Ram4king for taking a look at this car for me! Thanks Don!

Windshield antennas were standard.
CB option was only thing that had a body mount antenna as far as I know?
(factory anyway and just for the CB)

I concur... to a point

I am certian that I have read, and had first hand accounts which suggest that if the car was specifically ordered without a radio, it would not have had a windshield antenna.
I have understood that some cars which the buyers ordered without a radio were done so because the buyer intended to install an aftermarket radio/deck and wanted to save on thecost of a radio which was going to be promptly removed - but often the buyer felt burnt because they then had to add an arial, or get a very expensive (for the time) replacement windshield with the embedded antenna.

Hmmm...

I had heard that the antenna was always there, if no radio it was taped up under the dash.

Same with the power leads for the radio?

The PHS and window sticker for this car both show it was built with an AM/FM Stereo Radio and Soft Ray Glass, All. So I would think it came off the line without an antenna.

Maybe a previous owner had to replace a windshield and all he could find was a clear one without an antenna - hence the need to add an antenna on the fender?

Without the radio option was normally the radio accommodation package which still came with windscreen antenna if ordered. Mine was like this, had the U76 antenna w/screen but no radio. To opt out of the windscreen aerial would need to be a stereo delete altogether with block-off panel. I'm not sure how this occurred for 70-77 models without that panel, or if the block-off panel also came fitted for the radio accom package, rather than just a hole. The power antenna option was 79-up? ex-factory.

Dont Windshield's have dates on them ? If so ask Pat to check the date code. I know his car had the factory AM/FM Stereo in it. The only body panels replaced were the rear Quarters.

Default Antenna

All this talk about the windshield and the antenna I thought you guys would find it funny that the stereo doesn't even work. Where would the windshield date be so I can look for it?

Yes, they should have a date code.

Jim, Don White (Ram4king) looked at the car for me and he feels that the car has its original quarters based on the pinch welds and other clues that point to them being factory originals. I know you told me that they had been replaced but do you have any more history on it from the previous owners that would confirm that? Just curious.

Pat, thanks for chiming in. It would be great to have a picture of that date code area like the one HFR posted in the link he provided. Again, just curious about this car's interesting history. I'll give you a call tomorrow.

Looks like a certain Fire Coral Bronze Formula 455 may be headed to Georgia soon...
