Default Price Check -- Isle 9

Funny thing happened the other day. My dad informed my there was a '64 GTO sitting in somebody's yard about 1-mile from my house. I went and checked it out and, sure enough, there it sits! I had never seen it before! It's a black car with the correct hood, correct quarter trim, but the front fender emblem is missing and there's no holes for it (??). The interior is black and white. It has a GTO dash, white buckets seats and a column shift. Here it sits burried under a foot of snow!!!! Also, it has a trailer hitch on the back!

So I go up to the house. The guy says it's a Nevada car. He says there's a pontiac 400in it. He says he has a 64 389 from a big car and a cast iron tri-power intake. I ask him what he's doing with it....AND WHAT DOES HE SAY??

"Going to restore it someday" OF COURSE! Thank you.

I said "oh, I didn't know if it was for sale..." He says I could make an offer, but quick on my feet I respond..."I couldn't do that unless I got under it to take a look" of course I'm also thinking .."and run PHS on it to verify"

So, some other things I observed...
-I could see inside the trunk behind the rear tire. It's not terrible, but there's a small rust hole.
-The quarters are good for the most part.
-The front fenders need replaced (rust)
-The hood looks perfect
-Trunk lid needed.

Let's assume the frame is solid on this thing
Let's also assume it's a real GTO.

How much is this thing worth?
What if it's a Lemans?
How much for the car, extra 389 (I already own one), and TP intake?

I know what you're going to ask. I can't get pictures until the snow's gone. I'm just looking for a ballpark. Are we talking $3000? $5000? $8000?

Thanks!!!

UmmHmm...

You didn't say post or hardtop. Didn't say vert either, but I'll assume you wouldn't leave out a detail like that.

If it's a real GTO I'd say 3 Large if a lot of the key elements are in good order. Not having the original engine kills the value of an already low value Goat (i.e. 64 with auto trans).

If it's a not a GTO, add up what the parts are worth and divide by 2.

Here I am busting on 64 autos and one sells at B-J for 59 Large. I guess there is good hope for my 4 spd car. By the way, that car at B-J isn't an original tri-power car.

LOL, but for most that someday never seems to come. I've asked on a lot of cars sitting in the yard up North in NY... and they never move.

There was a guy not too far away from where I lived in Ft. Covington, NY that had a maroon 67 GTO convertable sitting in a garage that was about to cave in, just back the main road. You couldn't miss it if you'd been blind. It was backed in and the garage door was always open. It sat like that for 15 years that I know of. Sometimes I'd drive by and the hood would disappear under bags of garbage. Sad to say the least. I did ask about it and the reply... "I'm going to restore it someday". If I get up there this summer I'm going to check on it again. Hope fully the garage hasn't collapsed.
