Default reproduction outer window sweeps

I hate to start a thread that has a competitor's product when PY is kind enough to provide us a forum...but since they don't seem to want to make parts for us, and others do, here goes.

I was poking around the Ames site and came across this...

Part# F232NT (New Product)

Description 1973-77 A-BODY OUTER WINDOW FELTS (PR)
Comments NEW FOR 2008. QUALITY LOOKS VERY NICE. SOME MINOR DIFFERENCES VISUALY, BUT OVERALL LOOKS GOOD. SOME EXTRA HOLES MAY BE REQUIRED FOR MOUNTING.
Shipping Normal shipping. No graphic is available.

I thought...dare we hope that they're actually making these? Something is actually getting repro'd? Damn, I wondered if my poor ol' heart could take it...thought about it and took the plunge and ordered a set for the Can Am. $169, with shipping it came to $185. Waited a while for them and contacted Ames and found out they'd been back-ordered. So maybe they aren't making a lot of them at first, or there was a rush...who knows?

Got the sweeps on the 30th. They arrived inside plastic 'bags' taped to a 1"x2" board and then a triangular cardboard surround around that. Ends were packed with newspaper and taped. Packaging appears to have been done well since they arrived undamaged.

Quality appears to be very good. Has the similar plastic end caps as the original sweeps do. They do not extend past the window, so the short extension pieces would need to be obtained if needed. They come with the 'chrome' strip, so Can Am owners would need to tape or paint them. Here's the pictures...they do illustrate the quality and features better than I can.

All in all, they appear to be a decent reproduction, and hopefully they'll come down in price. it may be a wait to get them after you order them. But at least we now have an alternative for replacing those right hand outer sweeps...

Those spots on the hood are tiny surface rust. I hope to have the car in primer and new paint within a few months. Depends on whether other crises pop up...like they have a tendency to do around here...

Good to hear about that. I was afraid nobody would step up to repro those after GM started running out. It's probably because Chevelles can use them too .
