Default Upgraded rear brake pads?

I posted this over at YB, but curious if anyone has experience using the high dollar brake pads. I always used them for circle track, which of course is a little different than how my 68 is used. Here is thr current situation...

Ford 9" with Explorer rear disc brakes in my 68 firebird. Manual MC with 4wheel disc distribution block.

My braking generally seems ok with plenty of time to slow down after a drag run, but I feel like I could use more rear brake.

I see that the generic semi metallic pads are only 1" wide, while the surface area of the rotor is 1.75" wide. Couple questions...

-- does anyone know if a wider pad is available for the Explorer calipers?

-- would a Hawk Ferro-Carbon pad (or other) provide more cold friction stopping power than a generic SM pad?
