Unhappy Quadra Jet choke hook up???

i have a 70 GTO with the factory quadrajet , the car also has the origional 400 auto trans . the choke on this car has a vaccum pull off pod with two ports the service manual shows one port to the carb and one to a vaccum canister . should there be a check valve in the line going to the canister? or do i have this all wrong . the car as it is now does not have the line hooked up to the canister , i just have that port on the pod capped off. and the choke plate opens to soon giving me a lean condition . what am i doing wrong?
please help , thanks Jim

You have two choices:
1) use a small vacuum reservoir on the second port or
2) buy a choke pull-off for a '69 carb that only has one port and replace you're existing one.

Either method will work but only #1 is original.

The vacuum reservoir under the fender is for the carb only. It connects directly to the outboard choke pull off port. I can only guess as to it's purpose as an emissions device to reduce choke-on time. Anyone know for sure?
