Default Norwalk-Summit Raceway

I drove by Norwalk this evening this evening on the way home from Cleveland area. Lots of old memories there. We started racing there in the late 60's. My buddy had a gold 65 GTO and we ran E stock back then.I built his engines and driveline and used a small machine shop in Findlay.Ohio called Custom Engines.I have noticed several members from N.W. Ohio on the forums,if they are older they may remember Don at Custom Engines.I could give him the specs I wanted and he could hold them to 4 p;aces .0000 . In the mid 70's we ran a Ram IV ,4-speed, and a 12 bolt with Sommers Bros. axles and spool. We bracket raced at Norwalk ,Dragway 42. Marion County.National Trails,Milan,Mi,Middle Point,O 1//8 ,and Muncie,Ind. under the name 'Shannons Gold' .Good Times Anyone Remember?

I have some pictures of the "shannon's gold" 65 GTO coming out of garage after long term storage , if you haven't seen the car in a while.
Believe the pics are from around 2012-13

I don't remember who originally posted them, perhaps it was you - or the owner.

Then they gave it some attention and detailing , and made it roadworthy.

Default Norwalk Summit

Thinking back, several known Pontiac racers were from this area .In the 60's and 70's .Jackshaw in Cleveland and Knafel in Akron ran here.Jerry Steinbrick'S Warpath cars were regulars.I remember talking to Bill Foder, from Detroit,in the staging lanes at a larger event. There were many more maybe other members can add. "The good old days"for sure.

Best track in the whole country, we love to go to the Pontiac event there every year and tow up from Miami! The Bader family is the best also! Dave

Jim Kurzen ran a '60 Bonneville wagon, I believe at Summit. He was an area rep for GM in the Akron area

Any word on next year's Tri-Power Nationals? Will the track survive with present owner?
