Default 57 Pontiac speedometer - help

Has anyone had there 57 Pontiac speedometer rebuilt
looking for a good source for a friends Star Chief speedometer

the new cable didn't work so he figures it's the speedometer head
that need rebuilding - any info is appreciated

Before you pull speedo check that the cable is turning. I found speedo gear in trans badly worn.

There's a real good place here in the Twin Cities: APT Instruments, on 96th and Humboldt in Bloomington. http://www.gaugeguys.com/ I've had them restore several gauges, including a motorcycle combination speedo/tach cluster - I brought them a brown paper bag half full of parts, and when they were done it looked like an NOS piece.

Default looks like the problems solved with the 2 replies

Stuart, Thanks for this info this should solve the problem
I told my friend to check with the guy working on the 57
if he checked the speedometer gear as posted earlier
now with your post about APT in Bloomington this will
the next step

as of today i was told there getting a speedometer from
Goose Lake if that works he can send the original unit
to APT
