Husrt shifter ID? OEM?
I have an extra shifter that came with my 78 W72. It has 2 patent numbers on it - 3216274 and 3306126. From what I can tell, those mean that it's a Competition Plus shifter. The only other number on it is on the same side as the patents, but toward the front of the shifter. That number is 0483091 B. On the opposite side, it says "Made in Canada." The shift handle looks identical to the one in my W72. I'm going to sell it, and I want to make sure I know what the heck it is when I advertise it. I don't want anyone to buy the wrong thing. Can anyone clue me in as to what this is?

The factory 81 Camaro shifter I have looks like a Hurst but is an ITW or ITC, forgot which.

I made a similar post recently looking for this information HERE - I never got a reply.
It was suggested that I buy a book... By looking at info from the book's author, it appears as though aftermarket Hurst shifters use the stamped case number as the serial number I was hoping ot somehow identify the date of the shifter by a stamping on the shifter body. You can positively ID a factory versus an aftermarket Hurst by the absence or presence of positive stops, and provisions for a bolt on shifter handle - both of which yours doesn't have.

Look for numbers stamped on the rods. Shifter looks OE. What is the number stamped on the handle? No number stamped on the side of the shifter body?

Shifter is gone. I had an ad on Craigslist for a shaker and air cleaner, and the guy showed up to buy it, and bought almost everything else I had.
Thank you again to everyone for helping. This board is awesome. |
