Default Rear Mount Antenna

My car has a rear mount antenna, noticed it was loose, took a closer look and saw this see pics the suport bracket from inside it broken, took a look around and this part is not reproduced any ideas? Will a universalone pr just a washer work?.
As an added bonus looks like some water got in so I'll be sanding this section down and coating with rust inhibitor

The sites been acting screwy if I don't respond to any who responded sorry it's cuz the page comes up blank.

That looks like an aftermarket universal type antenna that was added to your car. I don't think these cars ever came from the factory with a rear antenna. Normally, if they had an exterior mounted antenna, it was on the front fender. The rest have the antenna in the windshield.

Maybe your windshield has an antenna in it? You could patch the hole in your quarter panel and paint it, and use the windshield antenna, if so equipped.

Otherwise, I would replace the antenna with a new one. That would be easier of course. I used to get that type of universal antenna from Radio Shack. But they don't appear to have them anymore.

After doing a Google search, I see a nice looking universal antenna at Crutchfield that looks like it would work great for that. Here it is: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-1XwC5d...E#&gid=1&pid=1

Now that you mention it I've never seen another 78 with a rear mounted antenna, I always assumed it was factory because my car does not have the winshield antenna and it is the original winshield.

I picked up universal antenna gotta fix it up.

Maybe a radio delete car? Post a pict, or post the date code off the windshield, that would pretty much tell you if the glass is likely original. I suppose the The build sheet would have that info as well though. Nice, cleanly cut hole for the antenna.

on the lower right side of the glass, there should be a etching in the glass. Likely a LOF with a two letter date code to the right lower side as I recall. There will be some other numbers/letters for the type of glass, etc. But its the two letters by themselves your looking for

I am the 3rd owner on one of my 78's & I have always thought it was the original glass as it looks to be factory installed & un-messed with. When I learned how the date decoding works I found the windshield was from 1979. Must have been replaced when the car was still nearly new. Most glass seems to be fairly close to the date on the cowl tag. usually the same month, or the month before the car was built. I am sure there are exceptions especially if your car was built the first week of the month, and you could have glass that was made at the end of the month. So 5 weeks apart would be 2 months by coding. I don't think the glass would be 3 months apart, but we all know some strange things happen in production.

XJ would be February of 1978

Car built in February or March by chance?

I would have to dig mine out & I am headed out the door. Guessing others will chime in, but I am pretty sure the radio is on the build sheet. Not sure if there is a radio delete RPO or not.
