Unhappy Finally test drive

Well after 7 year resto finally got this out more than "just outta da garage"

test drive went ok need some insurance and a license

A bunch of small detail stuff to do but is looking ok for a "DIY resto"

Am not happy with color mis-match on trunk to quarter top. Was 2 mixes of the Baja Gold and dont think the 2nd batch hit the mark. I may need a re-do over the trunk and other 1/4.. Which would require a 3rd mix

Paint is Moto-Base by Chads Is nice stuff to work with.

Used SPI Clear and epoxy Great paint by Barry and cudos for Barry and his tech help for hillbilly painters like me

Weird thing is you cant tell from fender to door . .. The drivers fender is the 2nd batch and cant really see diff in door So is pass door to pass fender

I guess the way the sun hits it makes the difference.

Looks great. If it were me, I would not sweat the color match. It certainly isn't really noticeable from the pictures.

Tell those who ask, it was mis-matched like that when you bought it new off the lot - and got a discount. Then faithfully replicated the variation during the restoration.

Great accomplishment and hope you get to enjoy it often.

Are the top and interior both sandalwood ?
Or is the top -white ?

On a 3rd mix - best bet would be to recolor trunklid and blend color onto top of BOTH quarters. Then clear all panels. Step the clear out on the quarters with each coat of clear, so that there is only 1 coat of 'new' clear where quarters meet doors.
More than 1 coat will start noticeably darkening the color match you might have now at those panels.
VERY lucky that any of it matches each other. imho

oh yeh , if you go for mix #3 - do a spray out test-sample first.
Verify it will be a blendable match somewhere in the range of the 2 colors you have now.
Could make life easier, and less expensive.

If you go for mix #3 - HOPEFULLY the clear you are using is actually 'clear' . Not a 'yellow cast' clear.

I'm not a painter, but did you spray those panels hanging in the position they would be on the car ? It is possible the color is a match but the paint laid out in a different direction is what you see from lighting.

thanks for support

Ya color is 10|55 (GC on PHS) and interior 257 sandalwood .. Had the dark dash/column and vent covers

Clear is SPI 4000 universal.
anyone hear of tinting clears to cover? Just asking

ya true antique allsprayed in position as laid. I had stripes in the pass door so ran out of paint to re-cover the tiger stripes.
I'm sure its due to the re-mix all were sprayed in approx same temp and humidity. With same gun
I found as many boards say the Iwata lph400 isnt great for base. Although BarryK said I had my gun pressure too low as I did manufacture recommendation. He indicated they say that to get the gun in VOC specs Iwata recommended 16psi inlet which is too low.. On the re-spray I went with the same pressure as Chads said if I changed gun pressure the color would change as well

Wow! A true two tone GTO, not a vinyl. Luv it! Quite unusual to see these days. Looks fantastic!
