1978 TA 6.6 engine
For sale is complete running Pontiac 400 engine. The shortblock was rebuilt by Jasper and has a few thousand miles on it. It never smoked, used oil or had any issues other than a rear main seal that dripped a little. The heads have just been rebuilt with new valve guides. The engine is being sold as is with the parts included in the pictures. The block code is X7 you can't read the date on the block but it is the preferred XX. The heads are correct 6X-4 and dated D268.

For you 78 guys out there this is the correct code for the TA 6.6 220 hp in an auto car!
Paul are both heads dated close to the same? The X7 I picked up years ago had different dates on the heads. I picked it up if I ever wanted to make mine as ordered as I had just missed getting the 220 HP with an auto by 1 month.

On 350 builds & W72 builds, its odd to see both 6X-4's the same date, have pulled TONS of 6X-4's.
Believe I have a set of 6X-4's the exact same date, both came off a late assembled '78 X7 out of a Y88, I've yet to find a 6X-4 cast any later. Notice anything interesting about the valve spring retainers?

Nothing other than they seem to be more of a gold color than anodized black..... should I have?

Interesting, I think my motor I bought(along with a 73 SD intake) they are a month or so apart. Who knows how original it is as it is painted black.

Does it have the 5 motor mount holes? I know the 557 blocks don't but not sure about the XX block.

I can check. The XX blocks have the bosses not sure if all five holes are machined.

All five motor mount holes have been machined and threaded. So this engine will accept two bolt and three bolt mounts
