Recreate the text image with a vinyl plotter program such as a Cricut machine. Many of our wives may have one at home already. Plot the vinyl and weed away the text that you want on the part. This will leave you with a stencil image. Apply transfer tape and then stick the stencil to your part. Paint, peel away the stencil and you will have your silk screened image.

in all seriousness though, I ordered a bunch of decals that came up in the ames site under 1968. So I have the blue GM emblem & the white A/C GM air cleaner decal & a few others I don't need. Not sure why those are listed as correct on Ames search function.

even the one above is listed. At least that one I knew didn't belong.

I put the Blue GM decals on my wife's Cadillac. Gave it some class.

Did we ever nail down the difference between PP and PR air cleaners? FWIW, mine was coded PP before I stripped and repainted it.

Different question: What's the original lid look like? I thought mine was original, but it looks different than the reproductions and survivor cars I've seen. It doesn't have the pronounced ring around the inside like the one in OG68's post.

Sticker is on, Full gloss of clear tape stands out a bit. I should have rounded the corners a little with a scissors. Also has a visible line where the two halves of the backing met. Reminds me of shipping tape.

When I ordered mine, there were no options. Just 400 4 barrel & I also received the PR decal with A279C filter callout. The pict of the PP decal shows a A212CW Filter Directions at the bottom are different too.

PP: DO NOT WASH OR BLOW OUT WITH AIR
PR: REPLACE WITH SPECIFIED ELEMENT

my lid I bought at ames over 15 years ago. seems a little more pronounced than whats in the picture, but I am sure its still not the same as originals

Is it possible the difference is the HD element? isn't that just a foam wrap on the outside of the filter? No clue, just guessing.....

I also need to replace my vacuum lines again. All the colored stripes fell off. A little bit on the yellow one yet. It's funny how I have taken so long with my restoration that there are several things like this I had to replace because of age & the car isn't done quite yet.

The regular and HD air cleaner assembly were identical other than the actual element inside. This air cleaner was also used on 68 Firebird 400 and big car 428 engines (375 and 390 horse) and in 69 it was used on the Fbird 400, GP 428 (370 & 390 horse) and the 428-390 on big cars. 69 GTO's used the dual snorkel air cleaner and for some reason these units use the white paper decal instead of the stencil.

I recently ordered a NOS air cleaner element for my GTO off ebay .... was an HD element but the foam had turned to dust. Still sealed in the original bag and box though.

Don't forget this sticker. I like it. The original chrome lid was rusty so I prepped and painted it black for now. Bought a reproduction chrome lid too.

Also, the placement of the original PR code silkscreen on my 68s air cleaner.

Didn't some early 400/455 70's cars have a lid decal like that? Or is it something that is also a popular add on? I like the PR image. nice example! It would seem they were generally located straight forward on the base. I installed mine slightly skewed 3/16- 1/4" to the drivers side, but still centered looking.

I bought it from a member here a good while back. I believe his handle is nytrainer. He produced them to mimic the 455HO callout. Not sure if he's still making them or not.

That looks good on there! We still have the artwork for virtually any size displacement (461, 462 even the 230 & 250 were popular sellers) and we even changed the HO to RA on request. True decal (water) and vinyl sticker available.
North,
What was the gloss level for the top and sides on 68/69 AC assembly w/o chrome lid?
