The reason I asked to see the phs...

The 400/4 speed with a 3:90 axle ratio was a 10 bolt posi unit (XPP)

It was standard axle on a L78 with a M22.

Special order on a L78 with a M20.

PHS will show how this was originally equipped.

I will check the rear end tag again when i get back to the house. If that doesn't tell me then ill have to wait for the build sheet to post that. Original owner remembered the car having 3.90 rear gears.

I would think that the PHS would show a 'performance alxe' option if you had non-standard gearing;
It does appear as though your foctory installed gearing is 3.55:1 - did the owner maybe say something along the lines of "the car has 3.90:1 gears" as opposed to "the car was ordered with 3.90:1 gears"?

PHS would show a (35G) M22 to automatically getting the 3.90 axle.

The Muncie case will also be stamped with correct code and date if it has matching VIN.

Axle code will also be stamped on axle (XPP) for 3.90 or (XHP) for 3.55 both 10 bolt rears.

Based on PHS it's a M20 (35E) and 3.55...

Special order axle not on PHS to be 3.90 either.

Original owner bought the car off the show room floor while looking for a used hemi car at the time. You all are a wealth of knowledge and all i can go off of right now are date codes and interviews i had with the orginal owner.

Would the stamping be on the pumpkin or the axle tubes?

Correction to the sale post.....(and thank you for the guidance) upon finally having a chance to inspect further the rear axle tube is stamped p341 XH. So it is a 3.55 rear gear car.

I'd love to read those;
Do you have a link to larger pictures?
