Default Restoring steering wheels.

Who is restoring Formula steering wheels? My 81 is brown and foam pretty rough. The repop color just does not match enough. Leather is OK

ive read of people restoring their formula wheels with a flexible 2 part epoxy to fill any holes or voids, then spray with an SEM type flexible paint. looks very good if done right. i have a bunch of candidates i plan to experiment on sometime.

skip: i may have a very nice brown wheel from an 81 if youre interested in replacing the one you have as opposed to paying for or trying to restore it yourself. shoot me a PM if you want to discuss further.

Regardless of if you restore your own wheel or recolour a new one, you'll still be redying one.
Just like dashes, most wheel repairs fail in time.

redying? the products for this purpose are flexible paints, not actual dye.

but yes, a high wear item like a steering wheel etc will eventually fail, cracks will reapear or the paint will get worn through.

best to find a good condition factory one, or use a low luster clear coat over the finished paint will provide more protection.
