Rattle can colors for 65 grille
Anyone have a match to the silver on the inside. I assume the black is a satin inside and outside. Most of my outsides have blue overspray on them when they painted the red car blue!

There used to be a lacquer paint called "Non-smudge Aluminum" that was spot on for the GM argent silver. I did my '65 GTO grilles and my '62 GP grilles and they looked NOS when done I believe it was a Dupont product. I do not know if it is still available. The black I have used 2 products, Plasti-Kote (T-8) and Brite Touch (BT55) made by Sherwin-Williams. Both are also spot on but there is a slight difference between the two so test spraying may be necessary. I find that the Plasti-Kote (T-8) is pretty much a perfect match to factory E coat primer.

I just painted the silver sections on my 66 GTO grill inserts. I used the VHT silver polyurethane wheel paint, Chev Rally Silver SP186.
Keep the coats thin to avoid runs. |

For the black portions in a rattle can solution, I have always used Krylon Semi-Flat Black. Not flat, not satin, not semi-gloss, SEMI-FLAT. It can be hard to find. It ends up with that odd sheen that has just a tiny bit of sparkle to it like the original paint GM used. It also adheres real well to aluminum, chrome and plastic. I painted my Chevelle grill with the stuff 20+ years ago and it still looks good and has not chipped or peeled off. No primer, just shoot the paint on the metal directly like GM did back in the day.
As an added bonus, Krylon has always used quality spray nozzles so you get a good spray pattern which helps avoid runs, drips, sags and bare spots.
