1977 Trans am
Wondering.....what the "correct" finish is on the firewall (engine side).....?
My 78 looks like gloss black...but is a Van Nuys build. Looked at some pics...of a survivor 77....and it appears to be black....sprayed over the brown body dip.....with some brown showing around the edges... |

My '78 Van Nuys is semi gloss black.

The colour should be a satin black. There is a formula that says what percentage it should be but that means nothing to me. Maybe it does to a paint guy. The bodys were dipped in primer, when the firewall was painted it was 'feathered' in at the transition between the bottom of the firewall and the bottom of the car which was left in primer. Everything under the hood should be the same black.
