Wow! About thirty years ago I came across a salvage yard that had a few fifty five gallon drums filled with 58-62 Pontiac forged rods. We were only able to salvage a few sets.

The car is in Houston, matter of fact very close to my area. I spoke to the owner who says that........get this...... "it is a SD400 and not a SD455.....the factory made the mistake of putting a SD455 sticker on the hood".......

She was at work and couldn't talk much, so I couldn't get a VIN # or more information. She did say however that she wants $65K firm.

Anyway I will check on it tomorrow.

probably a 400-4 spd car. Hood bird has been replaced. Looks like a nice car, regardless.

I spoke to the owner yesterday...it is not an SD it is a 400 car. The owner originally ordered an SD car and was delivered a non SD. From talking to the owner it sounds like an extremely nice original car.

Seems a little expensive for 400 4 speed car but I'll take a look at it regardless, it's just a few miles from my place.

Wait what?. It's a sd mistake yet a 400 not even a 455? Is the price a mistake too? 65k is right?

In 1974, all non SD 455's were automatic. You had to take the 400 if you wanted 4 speed, unless you got the SD. All 4 speed 74 SD's were produced late in the model year. So, if you ordered a 74 TA early in the year and specified a 4 speed, you got a 400.

A guy I know in Monroeville ordered a 73 SD.He didn't get it but got a 74 SD 4spd in fall of 73. I had the block,(original owner sold engine)traded it to a guy who found original car. When I got my automatic in March 74, I remember reading bulletin about thrust main problems for the 4spds. I have vin at home.

Yes, for SD's, an few early 74's did get 4 speeds. there were a few transmissions carried over. For most of the 1974 model year, the Muncie transmission plant was retooled for the economy car 4 speed (Vega) as America was in the midst of the first Arab oil embargo. The Muncie M-20/M-21 tooling was shipped to the Borg Warner plant, and it took several months to install and restart production. Thus, the large gap in SD 4 speed production.

Default SD EX flange??

Does this look like an original SD 455 exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe flange? Cast iron.

I have a 74' W8 block that I've owned for three decades and I would like to offer it to the matching car if it still exist.
If anyone is interested PM me your VIN and I will tell you if it's a match.
Thanks

That would be a service dated part with the 12/76 manufacture date, no?
