It was a real honor to open the latest edition of Poncho Perfection magazine and find several pictures of the Black Car in the MCACN coverage. Darrell and his Supercar Creations team did an unbelievable job, as did my wonderful friend My Pal Dave.

Speaking of MPD, we started tearing the Black Car apart again this weekend to correct a few things. The clock is not working, the carpet needs replaced, and there’s a few other clean up items needed. Next stop is POCI in June.

Thanks Don for all your contributions to the Pontiac hobby, and the kind words.

I meant to mention that I was also able to secure one of the Fabulous Formula’s signs for garage art. Thanks to Dennis and Darrell for the assist on that.

Also, if anyone would be willing to send me their copy of this issue of Poncho Perfection I would be very appreciative. MPD would love to have a copy to show off to his buddies. Send me a PM if so and I’ll be happy to cover postage.

Thanks.

My congratulations as well. I was very happy to see the great coverage for a great car.

You should contact Don Keefe about extra copies of the magazine. He should be happy to share some of his spare copies with someone whose car is featured.

Sorry Bob, since I'll never have a car like that, the magazine is all I have

Great car, event, recognition, and magazine article!

This all just kicks Ass. Nice job and a great display of all the Formys. Would be nice to have a calendar of all the cars there. The Display poster is a huge score!
I do seem to recall NJSteve had filed the "points" in that clock and got it running again? The quartz conversion is straight forward, but I find adjusting for daylight savings time while it has power can easily ruin the new motors. Good luck!!

Things are slowly moving along tuning up some the issues on the Black Car. The upper left control arm had gotten a little brake fluid on it that needed to be addressed. After spending 4 hours last weekend masking and covering the car, and just about everything else, we were able to spray the control arm in place and get it looking like new.

This weekend the carpet replacement commenced and the rear carpet section is now in place and everything back there has been reassembled. The new carpet with the correct pile length looks so much better. I also have resprayed the console as it picked up some shiny friction spots from the packing material I used when I boxed it up to take it to Darrell.

I also sent the drivers seat to the upholstery guy because the upper cover had a couple wrinkles, and Pete Serio is in the process of fixing the clock issue.

Hopefully the car will be back together in a couple weeks and we can begin a light buffing, paint sealing and final cleanup.

Damn if that carpet doesn't look significantly different!

I had an OMG moment (out-loud actually) when I saw the car bagged and read the 4 hour part!

Can you please explain/repeat the wrong cut loop carpet?
Who made the wrong versus the good stuff?

No idea who made the wrong stuff. Perhaps NJSteve will weigh in. He installed the carpet when he originally bought the car and I just Rit Dyed it to freshen it up and reused it. The Jensen brothers called it out during MCACN judging and were absolutely correct to my surprise and dismay. The new carpet is ACC from Ames.

IIRC the old carpet I installed back in 2012 was ACC!

Maybe they have different loop height options and I ordered the wrong one...or they sent the wrong one???

Not according to our sponsor's catalog. They list the carpet simply as "2 pc. loop 1970-73" and then with or without the tail...

No detail overlooked! Going to be perfect when it’s done Bob! Are you planning to take it to the TA Nats?

Huh. weird.
I'm pretty sure I replaced my original with ACC carpet circa 2004(?);
IIRC the loop looked the same;
The carpet appeared a bit more "fuzzy" than my original tattered carpet - but I wrote that off as wear and tear...

Can you please describe the difference?
(I only ask because sometimes posted photgraphs don't quite do it justice)

I have also used Rit to re-colour spots;
IMHO having to do that is absolute crap;
My original carpet was thirty-four years old when I replaced it, and was still perfectly black - but within a year of installing that ACC carpet, many areas that the sun touched were fading to a light brown...

Unruhjonny - Looking at the photo Bob posted of the new rear carpet install , you can see the 'wrong' fuzzy carpet in the front. The loop is too small as is the 'Fuzz-factor" of the old ACC carpet.
