i've done several searches and have not found one example of black over turquoise on a GTO. if my interior wasn't as complete as it is, i'd seriously consider a swap to turquoise. i think that combo would be so unique and cool looking.

Of the 1000 or so of what I've collected, 39 of them are Cameo Ivory cars.
Out of 39 of the Cameo Ivory cars, 3 of them had turquoise interiors.
Of the 3, one was a convertible with a black top. The other two were hardtops with "CC" code (no vinyl).

So, since I've got data on perhaps roughly 1 percent of 1967 GTO's made, I'd guesstimate that there were 300 Cameo Ivory cars with turquoise bucket interiors.

Neat.

By the way, the vast majority of Cameo Ivory cars had Black vinyl tops.

I know it's late, but I wanted to thank you for your post. And out of 300 or so cameo ivory - turquoise interior 67's, I wonder how many had HO's.

My 67 is a Gulf Turquoise/ Turquoise interior car. Love the interior color! I am going to go either Silverglaze or Black or a custom gun metal when I get it painted.

Fellow I used to work for swung a deal for 5 new '67's for him & his buds the Spring they graduated Grad school. This was at Wilde Pontiac in Waukesha, WI.
Being a tight wad, he passed & bought a '68 LeMans when they came in. 350 2 bbl, I do not remember the color combo.
I told him that he coulda been so cool!

Yes.
I have data mined '67 GTO "trim" combos from the internet for some years now. It's probably 95 percent from auctions.
I only record vehicles that have published VINs and then record their "trim" combo. If a trim tag or PHS card is shown, I note this and for calculating stats, I only use these confirmed data points. Obviously this avoids including bogus or mistaken data.
I've collected I think about 1% of 67 GTO production. I'm no statistician so I'm not sure how accurate it is to predict overall color combo stats based on having a 1% sample rate of GTO's. And, by the way, I've not included any LeMans, Tempests, or wagons.

Sometimes I wish I'd tracked other years, but nah, since 67's are simply the best GTO's, I'm content.

I'm curious as to how you collect the data, do you somehow identify each car record as "unique"?

I only make an entry on my list when there is a VIN shown in the ad or auction. Each vehicle on my list has a VIN associated with it. About half of those on my list also had pictures of the trim tag or PHS. Only the cars in my list with both VIN and trim tag or PHS is used as real data in my "stats". And as an aside regarding other option details, trim tags are shown often enough in ads or auctions, but are only useful, primarily, for trim codes. Other trim tag option codes differ depending on factory as discussed elsewhere on these forums and I'm not aware of general consensus on that stuff (for example, is there a clue something on the trim tag indicates it's an HO car).

Dave, are you able to list the colors in order of popularity? It would be interesting to see which colors were more popular than others, even though your list may not be statistically significant.

And what about two-tone combinations? You have records on that?

Thumbs up

The cameo ivory over turquoise is a great combo, which pulled me into the thread. The stats and painted top caught my attention.

Dave-
Not meaning to hijack but I have seldom seen GTO's with a painted top. My 67 is originally one of them. Due to its uniqueness maybe I should have you add it? Its originally Silverglaze with Starlight Black top, parchment interior, 4 speed BENCH with 8 track and some other options. Currently trying to complete the frame off and I chose to paint it one color, Atomic Silver. Happy to speak offline..

I hope axle doesn't mind that this thread is starting to veer off into the broader subject of paint colors. But I'll add more info if that's okay.

I just checked and I have verified "data" on 667 cars. Just GTO's.
That is 0.8% of production for 1967.
Yes, I've captured two tone (paint) cars. Not that many. Also a couple vinyl top colors other than black or white (cream, turquoise).

I spent some time crunching numbers but I'm waaay out of practice with working with spreadsheets. I think I'll have to come back

KGTO I always welcome more data.
Just quick though: Most popular color was Signet Gold, followed by Regimental Red. Some surprises: Fathom Blue and Starlight black quite rare. I included Tiger Gold which had no code but was a special color. Those were typically a "dash" or "1" on the trim tag. Chart attached. I don't know how I'd really present the data with top colors and interior colors. I need a statistician.

I may also update the thread on 67 GTO colors I started some years ago.

Thanks for the file--I'll check it out!

I have a list of Chevrolet colors that we can compare with yours. There's prob 90+% overlap with the same colors, I'll guess.

In regards to black, it was not considered a performance color like we think today. It was a color commonly associated with formality, so it's more likely to be seen on a Cadillac or Buick Electra from that era. I have production numbers for a lot of muscle cars that prove that, at best, black was middle-of-the-road in popularity.

Interesting that my favorite color for 66-67 GTO’s is gold, and my favorite color on 66-67 Chevelle’s is bright blue.

Perhaps I like them because they fit the car and that’s why people bought them, or perhaps I like them because that’s what was produced and seen?
