Default What is this????

Hi All,
I pulled the rear seat out of the Firebird and saw this. Any idea what it is?

Liquid/vapor separator for the fuel tank and charcoal canister. It prevents liquid fuel from reaching the vapor charcoal canister in the engine compartment when the fuel tank is full and the car is parked on a hill with the front facing downward.

If you get under your car, you will see a number of rubber hoses (I believe there are 4) that lead from your gas tank to that expansion tank. Please check the integrity of those hoses. If they are original, they will surely be deteriorated. If so, you have to change them. In fact, you should change all rubber hoses that come into contact with fuel and fuel vapors. The hoses installed in the 70's cannot handle the alcohol additives that are in today's fuels. If you intend to operate the engine in this car, failure to address this issue has resulted in fires. Safety first.

Those contraptions always bugged me! Lotsa plumbing, and routing gas inside, I know, contained....
