Wait, they shipped the vinyl perforated/glued to ABS unit one rolled-up to ya?

How did they roll the ABS? I assumed it would be somewhat "solid" and un-roll-able?

Yes thats how these headliners are shipped, the foam backed vinyl is pre glued to the ABS backer board, then its rolled very loose, almost just end to end to fit in a box to ship. Most, including mine after 1 year in the box will flatten out with no wrinkles, 6+ years is rather long to be in the box.

Heres a couple pics of mine, sorry for the clutter around it, its been there for a few years now, but you can see how flat it is, hard to see the perf vinyl since its still in plastic but there are no wrinkles at all, besides all of them in the plastic covering.

You can see the molding in the other pic showing how the sides near the rear are formed inwards to match the contour of the rear of the roof. I expect it to not hold as tight to the roof in those areas as the later years that have the seatbelt trim panels to help hold that area up to the roof, hoping for the best!

Dang. Those pics I posted were after heating and weighting down for weeks. I probably have a solid 3+ hours in just heating it.

Guess I will have to buy a new one. Dang.

Oh that sucks.

It is on sale at CI if that helps at all.

Interesting...I assumed it was just a giant box since they are charging me for oversize...

Check summit first if you havent already ordered it, they are usually cheaper by quite a bit for things like this, and if you need the one without rear seatbelt cutouts its a special part# you have to give, the ones listed are usually for the later years with cutouts for mounting the retractable belts. Think I posted the part# earlier in this thread, if not I can get it if you need that one.

The box is OS just due to size, but its partially rolled up instead of shipping totally flat in a box as big as the roof of the car.

What headliner have you all tried? I was thinking of getting this one from NPD here in Ocala bc I can pick it up / view it in person first before purchasing. Then take it home, test fit it, cover it & install.

I'm pretty sure PUI is the only manufacturer of this item, and the one I got was part number 73FHC70, fairly certain, it was without retractor cutouts, with material applied.

Mine was from our host, part number FA674V, and currently is listed for $269.00 plus shipping.

Summit has them, and is $314 shipped, so it's pretty much a wash, or like $10-$16 more.

There's 1 review on the Summit listing, and it had the same issue as mine, but is from like 5 years ago, so maybe they corrected the issues from back then?

78w72 - I would be totally happy if I got one that looks like yours.

Like I mentioned before, I think the best way to do this is to buy the board and material separate, heat/relax/shape the board and then apply the material one's self. But I think I'm going to try again to order it already applied and take a chance.

Notes on the Summit listing says to immediately remove from box and allow to relax. Interesting....

CI is slightly cheaper for same part and I'm buying some other junk and they have the 20% discount rn.

Dang, too bad they roll it up - hopefully it doesn't have that issue you are seeing

Yes PUI is who makes these, they are drop shipped direct from PUI, so the only thing that matters is price or company loyalty. Summit was the cheapest by about $50 when I ordered mine about 6-7 years ago.

I like they now offer a bare board to allow for test fitting/trimming then add the material, would avoid any dents from manhandling it to install.

The NPD link even says to remove from box asap for the bare one too, so thats an issue for these. HWYSTTR- maybe try laying it out on the sun for a few days when it gets hotter, might lay flatter?

I went ahead and ordered a new one, figured my original ordered one was too far gone, so will see when I get it, and will be sure to immediately remove it from the box.

I did shop it, and it's a juggle calculating total cost which includes shipping. What I found all were within @ $5-$15 range, suspect it's a price-fixed item.

So I just ordered it from our host.

I'll post pics once I get it, the guess-timate shipping time is like +2 weeks, so will post once I get it.

I bought one and laid it out flat the day it was delivered. There were a couple minor wrinkles that didn't completely relax, even with some heat, but i went ahead and installed it. It looks fine...but I've stopped expecting perfection from aftermarket parts.

Got pics?

I would be happy if it were a minor wrinkle or two, but mine is terrible.
