Towing the trailer (total rig weight = 25,000 lbs) mixed highway and non-highway driving....11 mpg. A huge improvement over the 454 gas engine truck that had a lot less power and got 7 mpg in the same service. In constant 65 mph driving without a trailer and without starts and stops, it gets 25 mpg.

Just for fun, I priced out the equivalent truck on the GMC web site. A new one is $64,760.00. Not including the full length chrome running boards and the Rhino Lining. So for a tick over 1/2 price you can have an almost new truck, condition wise. This truck has been delicately used and carefully over-maintained. Should provide another 200K miles of dependable service. Pulls a 40' goose neck trailer fully loaded like it's barely there.

I got some questioning about why I bought a 2wd dually when 4wd is so much more popular these days. The reasoning is as follows:

1) the intended use off this truck was for hauling the race car around....definitely a summer pursuit.
2) I specifically didn't want to drive this truck on salty winter roads and subject it to the rust and corrosion. (and it's current condition reflects that avoidance of salt).
3) the 4wd running gear is certainly pretty proven...but the more things you add to a vehicle, the more things you have that can need maintenance or repair. The relative simplicity of a 2wd was an intentional benefit.
4) likely some minor improvement in mpg due to the reduced weight and rotational drag.

For what it's worth...

Eric

Geez. Someone buy it. That Duramax isn’t even broke in at that mileage! If it was 4x4 I’d consider it personally

Yea, that's a pretty good price for that truck. If it didn't have 6 wheels I would consider it, but I have no use for a dually. 2wd wouldn't bother me, I have a 4x4 but hardly ever use it. Figured it would help with resale value as well.

Quick question, Eric. Did it have a locker?
