Default 67 GTO fuel line return

I'm trying to figure out my fuel filter setup. 67 GTO HO convertible.

The first picture is the advertisement (ebay) picture of my car before I purchased it... shows the original (blue) filter with the return line setup. Which I assume is correct... I have the PHS docs which show build date Nov 66.

Pictures 2-5 is how the car arrived... showing aftermarket filter with no return line.

Any thoughts on why the change? Is one better than the other?

I've had the car 1.5 years and haven't had any trouble even in hot weather.

The steel line from the carb in both pics is upside down. It should be flipped so that a short piece of straight rubber line can connect it to the filter. That loop of rubber is asking for trouble. The first pic is correct. It's exactly like my December '66-built '67 with HD cooling. You should install the return line and filter, IMO. It really does keep the fuel a LOT cooler, and there is no down-side. Is the steel 1/4 inch portion of the return line still bolted to the timing cover/front of the engine?

Jeff, thanks for your reply but I don't understand your question. Maybe you could send some detailed pictures of your car?

I do plan on getting this back to the original configuration.

I could be wrong here but I think some 67 gto cars came with the single fuel line and some came with the return line set up . I don’t know for sure if all 67 HO cars all came with the return line set up

Not concourse here but this photo should give you a better idea of the way the top side should be "plumbed up"

A little more specific on the 67 fuel lines under hood.

I already touched on this topic in another thread.

This applies to the standard 335HP and optional 360HP, with Automatic or Manual trans.

The “Inline advertisement” shows the (3) fuel lines used for about the first 8 months of 67 production. The last several months (possibly March through July) changed to the single line from pump to carb. This single fuel line continued through 1968 and future models.
All these 67 fuel lines were made of stainless steel, not aluminum.

The small 1/4” return line was secured with a bracket fastened to the timing chain cover stud (as Jeff mentioned above). This is shown in my 67 fuel line pics.

The last photo shows a view of an 06A low mile 67 with the single line.

Chris.

If you look closely you’ll see the clip in this picture. My car has this return line set up off the fuel filter

My bad.

The fuel lines “were not” stainless steel.

The material was “Tinned Bundy Tube”.
A copper coated steel that was rolled into a pipe that was used throughout the automotive industry.

Fuel lines, transmission lines, brake lines, etc.

Much of it shown here on a 66.

60sstuff, I did a search for your comments on 67 fuel lines but did not come up with the specifics; any link/search specifics to look up? Thank you.
