Default First Year of Judge Production 1968 or 1969?

I saw 68 GTO Judge for sale. I don't know if this is a real Judge or tribute car. It's advertised as a 242 car. Can some one tell me the first year of Judge production?

If by year, you mean model year, 1969

242 shows it is a "real" GTO. Anything else beyond that wasn't born with...

Do you have a link to the add? There was a 68 dressed up like a judge in MN about 10 years ago.

69 was the first year of the Judge. all 66-71 GTO's have a VIN that starts with 242 (versus 233, 235, 237 for LeMans Tempest etc). The Judge was just an option can not be identified by the car numbers itself but you can eliminate many cars...

1... Judges were only produced from January 69 till mid model year of 71 so other model years can't be a Judge and early production (date on Trim tag) 69's or late production 71's also can't be Judges.

2... the signature orange red of 69 Judges was also offered on other GTO's and not all Judges were this color so the color code on the trim tag is also not a reliable indicator (that being said a 69 gto with a factory T code (carousel red) was probably a judge since very few non judges received that color).

3... we are very fortunate in our pontiac hobby that documentation is available through the PHS company, this is the gold standard of authentication/
