Default 69' GTO Instrument Lights On w/ Brakes ...

hi friends,

when I depress brake pedal my dash lights come on. I was really careful assembling dash and have good grounds at gauges and at tail lights. tail light sockets are all clean. new MH dash harness was installed btw.

blinkers/hazards work fine until I turn on parking lights .. then they kinda just stay ON.

thanks!
mike

So by "dash lights" you mean the gauge backlights?

Does this happen with the engine off, key out of the ignition?

Did it ever operate properly with the new harness installed?

yes, gauge backlights light when brake pedal depressed.

happens even w/ key out

if hazards are on, flashing normally ... when I depress brake pedal, hazard's light up solid, no flashing

problem has been present since dash went in, yes

thanks for the help,
mike

Do they flash with hazard's?

Do they flash with left AND right turn?

If yes to any of the above.. Remove tail/stop bulbs or unplug the tail light harness and see if things change.

Really sounds like current is feeding back through a tail/stop bulb. Only takes one for this to happen.

That would be normal.

gauge backlight's flash w/ hazards and w/ left blinker only

not w/ right blinker

when I disconnect harness in trunk backlight's no longer light up w/ brake pedal
but hazard's flash very slowly and blinkers don't blink but light very dimly

thank you, clay

That tells us your feed back problem is in the left rear.
Bad ground, defect bulb, wrong bulb, bulb orientation.. just have to check and see.

Perfectly normal when flashers don't have full load from all the bulbs
