Anybody watching Barrett Jackson this weekend?
Can anybody tell me what is going on with auction prices this weekend. I don't; think you can buy a decent car for under $100K & I just watched a few LS6 chevelles go for $200-$300K, & a 396 convertible go for $200K 71 blazer for $250K nice cars, but wowza! not just a couple cars, but just about every one that goes across the block!
Am I missing something? This is really some crazy stuff. A couple examples......

I've been watching on/off since Wednesday but yea, today was weekend crazy money. Some were for charities but still, pretty serious cash.
Kicked myself for missing one of the few GTOs, a '68 RA convertible. Sold for $132 I think but Pontiacs overall are pretty slim here. |

I saw a bit if it. I can't believe the prices they got for some of them. And prices not gotten for others I thought were better. Must be a money epidemic due to booze, brought on by Barret Jackson enterprises. LOL And I couldn't believe how many there weren't wearing masks. Must be the Virus Police aren't paying attention, or they don't really care.

Two different massively modified 1949 Power Wagons sold for $180,000 each. A surprise was a really nicely restored 1970 Superbird only brought $140,000 and remember those were insane about 5 years ago reaching $240,000.
The event is rather mind altering in itself. I record all the days and they blow through the recordings on fast forward skipping over most of the cars. Even then I found myself thinking that some car only sold for $120,000 -- and later on after the spell is broken do I come back down to reality and realize how insane even that amount was. I did really like this wagon that sold for $19,000 on the first day.

I came to the conclusion yesterday that the hammer price had very little to do with the cars real value & everything
to do with how bad the group of bidders with bottomless pockets wanted the car. Not sure if its the bragging right to say how much you paid for your BJ televised auction car or what the bidding motivation is, but during the time I was watching there was seldom ever a car that was under $125K Kind made me sad sad to be honest. So many average guys that see the insanity & then believe that their car on craigslist must be worth half of those numbers & takes them further away from the next generation of car guy. I really don't know what the bidding motivation is, but it made zero sense to me.

What blows my mind is the buyers have to pay 10% commission to BJ on top of the selling price. Let alone the sales tax.
Barret Jackson is making a killing in commissions. |

I was at the Auction Wednesday through Saturday. A couple of notes;
Keep in mind they make 10% from the buyer and an additional 10% from the seller. That on top of tickets, bidder fees and $7 beers. Still/ it’s a great time and I enjoy it. It seemed this year they saved most of the hot cars for Saturday. Just an incredible line up. That 68 GTO was beautiful. While a lot of prices were insane, some were deals. Not deals on this website but deals in the real world. A red 64 GTO convertible Tri Power 4 speed in very nice shape went for 55k A nice 67 gold GTO went for 49.5k A red/red 62 corvette went in the high 50’s Two 69 Camaro pace car convertibles sold in the 60k range Then there were the crazy ones- I never thought a square body K5 would be worth 80k or a 71/72 K5 138k!!! |

Yes the auction has always brought out the bank vault guys but the trends have changed .
So many Broncos / C-10s and square body’s bringing crazy cash. Trucks period selling . Seen couple Detroit Cobo hall vehicles sell for what i thought cheap considering the level of craftsmanship. Quality custom cars doing ok. Guess the stock market for many has helped with the privileged . |

You are so right! We used to use those K5 Blazers for salt/plow trucks! Hang a blade on the front and a salter on the back and station a kid, (me), in the back cutting bags of salt open and throwing them in the hoppers. After 3 years from new, they were so rusted out we had to lay sheets of plywood in the back so I wouldn't fall through and land on the ground. Those were the days. |

I couldn’t believe 67-68 custom mustangs out selling original 67-68 Shelby’s, old broncos and landcrusers out selling Superbirds. I didn’t watch it all but likely some VW buses were stupid priced too. Just all crazy to me.

I thought most of it was entertaining but way too many newer Mustangs and Shelbys that brought stupid money.

Shared sentiments. I noticed right off the bat that the selling prices seemed to be higher than usual. Some times to the point of being absurd, 100k for a Bronco, REALLY!! They say a fool and his money are soon parted, seemed to be plenty of them there.

I taped it and then watched it, so I could ff through the commercial’s and some vehicles I have no interest in. What amazed me, was how happy some buyers were, to pay what I considered stupid money for some vehicles. But, who I’m I to say how people should spend their money. I will say, there is some truly amazing talent out there when it comes to customization.
