I thought he was referring to the SD Formulas and TAs.

Now the Formulas were less than 500 total for the 2 years of production.

1974 = 58

I was tightening up the lower heater hose clamp to the water pump today on the 73 SD Formula and had to remove the 80 amp alternator idler pulley assembly in order to get to it. So I finally got a photo of the EUN on the front of the block that is hidden by the idler bracket. The car was ordered by Enrico Stein on 05/09/1973, shipped on 07/19/1973 and delivered to him on 07/31/1973.

Here you go:

When you look at John's EUN list, some of the EUN's are out of sequence from the VIN's.

Did the EUN's get stamped at the engine plant and then pulled as needed from the stock rack for installation into a car?

I believe they get stamped at the engine plant.
(if that's where they built them?)

With the SD's I think the 'out of order' was because of the SD situation.
They probably required special treatment somehow and some might have been taken out of order on the line for something.
(possibly waiting on some parts like manifolds/carbs/whatever, the car itself may be ready but not the engine?)

I know the cast dates on the block were just a few dates, so can't go by that for when the car was built.

Also, some numbers may be off quite a few compared to the normal engines, but there were a lot of engines (thus eun's) put in cars between the SD's especially the Formulas I would say.

I would love to find someone who worked there that could explain the procedure for this.

when I worked @ the Linden plant (65-67), if an engine failed on first fireup , the car was sent to "heavy repair" for another engine.

Hi all,
Had a message from Pat Smith few months back who had been approached by a publisher on doing a book just on 1973-74 SD 455 Trans Ams and Formulas. If you or anyone you know would be interested in having pictures of your cars in the book than I can forward you his email address or maybe direct him to the forum.

Cool, Ken.

Did the engine have the engine unit number on it at that time?
And if sent back, the 'new' engine get the same eun or it also had it's own eun?

(plus was the sent back one recycled to another car?)

Default Slight Problem.

I just got in touch again with Pat Today with all the interest on this Book.

Unfortunately he has told the Publisher he is not available for the next 16 months due to other projects and commitments and would not be able to dedicate the time to make the book right. The publisher is keen to push ahead and would most likely look for another writer.

The publisher is Cartech Books and Pat is sure it will get iff the ground just not with him but he will definately let us know when it does in the not too distant future.

Wrong section I know, but WTF.....

I got all excited when I first saw this car because I would really love to have a Buc Red SD, and one with a 4 speed is even better. However, the more I look at it the more problems I see. All the front fender fasteners have been painted red, the left door weatherstripping has some nice red overspray, and it is obviously parked in a body shop with very poor housekeeping. Am I missing something? Here's the link....

My daddy told me to never buy a claimed unrestored car sitting in a body shop.

John: I don't think the eun was stamped at the assembly plant(BOP Linden). I don't know what happened to the pulled engines. I was a "driver" , heading to the time clock and working 8-12 hrs a day moving cars in and out of the plant. I did enjoy looking at the stacks of 421 HOs with tripowers and big manifolds while heading to the timeclock.
