Awesome, I love seeing Pontiacss that turn left and right. And go straight too

I have been competing on the track with Jerry's '68 Bird at Road Atlanta in the early '90's.

Makes me want to do a T/A. Pics bring back memories of going to Road Atlanta when I was 11-13 years old back in the mid '70's. Don't remember any American cars running though. Thanks for the pics!

Well Boater Bill, with any luck I'll have my 68 at Road Atlanta sometime this season.

Anyone know if this is the real deal or a clone?

Does you mean the sanctioning body for these nostalgia races doesn't allow clones?

I guess unlike some other "originals", this one actually has a VIN?

I always thought the Titus car was totaled in the wreck that killed him.

SDRoger from Switzerland knows both owners of the 70 T/A and the White Camaro in the pic and he says they are the real deal. The 70 T/A has the RAM AIR IV heads as the RAM AIR V heads intake ports were far to large for the 303 which makes up to 480 hp with
The IV's. About the Jerry Titus crash--from the picture I have looks to be very little damage--hard to tell but I Heard there was more than one 70 race T/A . I'll scan the pic in soon.

Got to love those BIG rear fender flairs! Hard to beat cornering with some road race slicks too. Seat time isn't 7-14 seconds per run either!

Heres the pic--front end seems to be toast but I've seen cars restored from boxes of parts.

I'll try to dig up a photo or 2 of the Titus '68 this weekend and post it . I posted a poor pic in the '67-'69 firebird on the Camaro rear bumper debate of me at Road Atlanta at the Mitty in '91

It really depends on the sanctioning body and what you really want to do. I was able to race my non-historical Firebird at several events. I never proclaimed it to be anything other than a '68 Firebird that had the necessary safety equipment and I didn't want to go fender mashing, just turning left and right.

I also had the privilege of working for the guy that owned Dick Guldstrands '68 Camaro that raced Trans Am for several seasons.

I'd say that in all likelihood, the car in post #1 is not the same car stuffed into that concrete bridge abutment in post #13. Having more than one car was not uncommon back then, depending on the teams budget.

I am not 100% sure, but I believe this car is a clone, he calls it yankee tank, it was in a Pontiac magazine a while ago. In some historic races you can have clone cars, they just have to look like the real thing. For example my car would be able to particpate but it would have to be built exactly like the Grey Ghost as far as mechincal wise.

Titus had three cars in 1970.
The one that he crashed in was supposedly crushed.

Don’t know where the other two ended up. Maybe the top car is one of those.

SDRoger just got back to me on this--there were 2 0ther Jerry Titus 70 Race T/A's plus the RADIAL TIRE BIRD in the TG Racing Team. The one in the crash pic was destroyed.
Heres a few other pics of them racing and in the paddocks at Laguna Seca--these are the real deal..
