I'm tickled to see a very worthy member here aquired that Catalina. Way to go Jeff.
Can't wait to start finding out the nitty gritty on this cool car.
I always wanted a squad car with a big mill since 1980, when the Berrien County sheriff's dept put up a dozen or so 1977 LTDs with 460 power. Incidently they were white w/painted black roof.

Could I caution further posters here to not expand the page with huge pictures?
Scrolling the page side to side to read the posts is giving me a headache.

Here are some shots of the 73 Lemans Safari 4-speed in as bought condition, I remember now the NASA Hood and rear window air deflector made the trip in the back of the truck, as I could not lock the hatch and I did not want them "walking" away.
The car is much rustier than it looks in the pictures, with Flintstone floor boards, the inside of all 4 doors shot, interior shot ect... But did run well with the exeption of the stupid Hurst Indy shifter that was installed, and the fact that they had installed the shifter brackets upside down on the trans, and had reverst the 1-2 and 3-4 gear locations on the pattern. I ground the gears every time I tried to shift into what I thought was 2nd or 4th!!!! I was Lucky as the original hard to find Bench seat IBT shifter was laying in back.

I just noticed the seller sent me an E-mail with close ups of the drivers door were the paint is coming off, it does look like the paint just cracked and fell off some areas.
Also he says that he bought the car a few months back at a Estate Sale in PA, and that the Former Owner had over 25 Pontiac's from the late 50's to the Mid 70's that were being auctioned off. We may be familure with the former owner of this car. I will let you all know his name as soon as I Know who it was.

Ben,

After a quick search it looks like the under hood braces were a 71 and 72 only thing, so you are correct that they were gone by 73. A lot of the under hood pictures only had the passenger side remaining on the car. I wonder what task requires removing the drivers side brace? I guess I will find out soon!!!!

Camerjeff,

Thanks for the pics of teh Safari. I love it, but a re-body is a good idea if you can find a solid wagon for a good price. It seems like the odd-ball cars are more expensive than they used to be. But that wagon is well equipped with posi and 3.23 gears, plus tach & gauges, am/fm stereo. Man, what a neat car. Do you have the PHS for it?

We're all looking forward to seeing more pictures of the Enforcer!

The underhood braces on my Bonnie are simply attached with those pointed threaded hex head bolts with the like-size captured U-clip at each end. I'll try to get a photo for you the next time I visit my brother.

Well I was Pleasantly Suprized today to find the PHS I faxed in yesterday in the Mail!!!! I know I lived close to them but I never expected same day service. I will have to thank them.

Looks Like the Dealer is now a Taco Bell!

https://www.google.com/maps/place/90...203910!6m1!1e1

Well the car comes back exactly as advertised, A all Cameo White Enforcer with a Per 4bbl 455 with dual exhaust, no performance axle ratio or Posi listed. Most of the options are self explanatory but I will list them plus post pic's of the PHS, Car was sold V.T. Angle Sons in Chambersburg PA and cost 3403.67 Tax Exempt

4BBL 455 Per (I do not know what the Performance indicates)
H78X15 BW FG
STRG WHL-C/C (Custom Steering wheel still there.)
PWR STRG-VAR (Must be considered an early car as Pwr steering became standard)
DEFOG-R/Wind (Bonus I did not know it had this)
ROOF W/HARN ( Must have had a roof light)
FRAME-HD (Does this mean it had a Convert Frame?)
POL APP-FE ????????????
BATTERY-HD
CLOCK-ELEC (Still There in Pic's)
TURB/HYD (Again became standard later in the year)
DECK LID CON ????????????
W/COV-DLX (So the Full Hub Caps are Stock)
GLASS-S/R-AL (Full Tinted Glass Good deal!)
C/SPEED-POL (Calibrated Speedo, still there)
SEAT HD-F&R
SPG&SHK-EHR ?????????????
EXHAUST-DUAL
RADIATOR-HD

So the things I don't know are

POL APP-F/E Code 646
DECK LID CON Code 421
SPG&SHK-EHR Code 626

And exactly what makes a Performance 455? I am assuming a D-Port Engine with 66 Heads

Any Help on those codes is greatly appreciated!!!!

I am getting more Exited about it, Now I just have to get a trailer as Mine is stuck in the back 40 of a friends house under 4 feet of snow and behind about 200 yards of Muddy Grass

POL APP-F/E Code 646

Just guessing: Police Application, Freeway/Enforcer.

Edit Lightfoot you type faster than me!!!!

Thanks That Makes sense, And If I would have taken out all the pages from the package I would have seen the Special Equipment Order page that explains most of the others

POL APP-F/E Code 646 is Police Group Freeway Enforcer N/A W/350 engine But it does not explain what that package consists of.

SPG&SHK-EHR Code 626 has something to do with Springs and Shocks But 626 does not show up, 624 does and is Springs and Shocks, Extra Heavy Load
So maybe 626 is Extra Heavy Rear only?

So the extra options I did not know are Remote Trunk Release, and rear window defogger. And the Roof Wiring Harness includes a "plate" And the car should have a rear sway bar as the separate option code 611 has a note that it is included with groups 644, 645, and 646 Freeway Enforcer.

My '71 Catalina had the power trunk release, there's a little button inside the glove box that operates a solenoid that actuates the latch.

I have E-mailed Both the Chambersburg PD and the local Historical Society. I have not heard from the PD as of yet, but the Historical society was happy to see pictures of the car, but they did not have anything in there records.

I also may try to contact the local Newspaper and see if they have any archives.

The frame is a heavier gauge metal as compared to the normal Catalinas.

Congratulations! The 71 is my favorite from that series. They looked the toughest and most outlandish. I had a 71 Grand Safari with the double electric clamshell tailgate. Such a cool and unusual design for that time.

Thanks, now I won't be suprized to see a C channel frame Friday afternoon.

As a side note the Local Newspaper Photo Editor returned my call, and she is going to look thru the old archives from the 71-74 time period and see what she can come up with. She also wants to do a local interest artical on the car. Hopefully she will come up with something.

Well Jest Picked her up and loaded her up on the borrowed 16' trailer, just fit whew!!!! She fires right up and runs strong, just like I figured it had the D-port #66 heads, so big Valves, screw in studs and 8.2 CR should be the 335HP version. Passenger side exhaust manifold is shot, as are all the pipes, just as the seller described it.
It has a bit more rust than described, but a good solid northern car. Unfortunatly there are enough dings and scrapes that I think it is going to need a complete respray. It does have new tires, but the shocks, and belts look original, and it looks like the hoses were replaced once before a lot of our board members were born.
So besides all the Fluids, belts and hoses, it has a lot of little things wrong, the wipers, blower motor, rear defogger, gas gauge, and the rt turn signals are inop. I think I am going to order the Reproduction Ram Air exhaust manifolds for it. And a complete Stainless dual system, will have to do some research on that.
My wife convinced me to make a weekend of it, so I will not be able to post any good shots until next week. But the interior is in very nice shape, 1 small tear on the back seat, and the rear carpeting is pretty worn, other than that just the normal sun fading on the upper door panels.
The rear package tray is pretty bad, and it looks like the car did not have a roof light (but not sure on that) but it did have a couple of flashers bolted to the rear package tray. Not Radio or speakers.
All in All not much worse than I was expecting. Still Happy.

Default 71 Catalina frame

I don't think the frame metal is a heavier gauge. I think they just boxed the frames just like convertibles on all service vehicles, e.g. police and ambulances.

Good luck with the car. Are you going to re-do it as a police editions complete with paint scheme and decals?
