Default 1980 Formula Main Harness Info BADLY Needed

Hello Gentlemen,

I hate to admit this but I am getting my butt kicked by the wiring on our 80 Formula Firebird. It's been a backburner project for the last couple of years waiting for my oldest to be old enough to Jr. Street race it. Anyways, the car came with a knocking 350 SBC and until yesterday, I thought it was a factory 305 SBC car. According to my manual, being a W (5th digit) on the vin makes it a factory 301 car. The battery appears to be in the factory passenger side location and the harness appeared to be factory routed for a passenger side starter (Were 301 starters on the passenger side?).

Back to the manual, none of the printed harnesses really match what I have. I know the 80 was very different from the 77-79 and trying to compare it to my 81 T/A was pointless. My diesel Ford and old gas Dodge truck had more in common than my 80 & 81.

It doesn't help that I pulled the old 350 SBC a couple of years ago to put in a 350 Pontiac and didn't finish wiring it. What has really made this difficult is all the wonky wiring that has been done (see pics). I finally said F it and cut out some of the crappy wiring.

From the main harness I have these seven wires

1. Yellow (guessing HEI tach though book says it should be white)
2. Red with black stripe
3. Pink (I believe HEI)
4. Red
5. Black
6. Blue
7. Brown? That's what it looks like to me

Now wires 2,3,4 all have continuity together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, THANK YOU!!

I extracted and enlarged this 1980 W Code Engine harness but it doesn't seem to match with what I have.

Was ignition switch 'ON" when you got continuity between HEI power and the two battery feeds?
Guessing that's two battery feeds. Hot to master splice and hot to headlights.

Clay

I think it was Clay, thank you for pointing that out. I'll go back and recheck.
