anyone rebuild a 1981 smog pump
just wondering is it possible to rebuild a smog pump

cant help on the rebuild, but most guys with the 301t that want to keep the stock look just gut the pump & reinstall it. unless you need it to pass emissions & are keeping the stock catalytic converter its not really needed & just robs a little power. i gutted mine & removed the cat.

have you confirmed it has it gone bad? usually they will make a grinding noise when they are bad.

Yet to run across an '80 or '81 301's smog pump go bad, though I removed near a dozen from turbo cars when they were relatively low mile. Would changed the wp pulley & when 63 amp alternator cars, would also change the front alternator bracket.

as ol pinion head said, chances are its not bad. i would just remove it if you dont want to use it or crack it open & gut it & reinstall so it looks correct.
