I have a set that I bought complete, had planned on changing out the components and do some port work for use on the wife's car but have moved them to the back burner with all the BS going on right now. They appear to be a quality head and casting, I'm hoping so!

Default Heads

Yeah I looked at them real good up at Norwalk with a gentleman that had cutaways of those heads versus the Edelbrok heads and they look pretty amazing especially for the price point

I have a set I just finished doing some light port work on. The casting actually look better than both sets of my Eheads and needed very little port work to get to 300CFM. Have not finished the engine yet so no official results.

How about valves, springs, retainers, etc. ??

Thanks!

Default heads

I have a set that I'm going to change all of the components out and port like my edelbrocks. Hope to have them on an engine soon with some real world results.

The hardware that came on them actually looked pretty decent. I will change the springs out to match the cam. The valve job was pretty good as well.
I am putting these on a mild 421 set up with a solid cam and a Offy 2x4 intake for a street cruiser.

Randy Repp has a set on his dragster running but due to the shut down has not been able to get out and test.

Just remember that in the end you always get what you pay for!
I want to see some long term results from these heads, like someone using them near every week end at the track and making more then 2 test & tune passes for a full race season.

Only then can it be gauged as to how good the basic head was tempered, and how well the seats stay in place ( not falling out ) and or the need for a valve job because the Intake valve does not lap in on the Exh valve side.

Performance potential out of the box means little to me if after 15 to 25 runs at 6500 rpm the seats start to move around!

The valve gear wouldn't worry me as most would swap these to parts compatible with their cam, as Steve mentioned- I would worry about the seats coming out. I have a BBC in the workshop with Chinese made heads that a seat dropped out of after a couple of years use - the engine damage was catastrophic, head, block, crank, rod, piston.

Hey taff2, are these a set of the Speedmaster heads that are supposedly machined in Australia. I’ve been trying to understand the difference in quality of these and the earlier Pro-Comp heads. It’s all very hard for me to get a handle on.

Thanks
Murf

My thing is if Eldebrocks are $1599 a pair SKU60539 and Speedmasters are 1595 the only way you save anything is buying the complete speedmasters. With that being said one would have to put a lot of faith in that valve train not to mention valve seats.Kinda new to Pontiacs but I’ve seen bad things happen cause of cheap valves ect...

I saw a post from a chevy owner that bought Speedmaster heads, and the seat fell out almost immediately, he wasn't happy, as they blew him off for warranty claims. Maybe there were other circumstances that they didn't honor a warranty claim.......

Only hearing one side of the story isn't the best way to draw a conclusion, but the way the company handles claims, is how you know the value of a warranty, and the integrity of the seller.

I guess since they only have one major competitor, Edelbrock, are there instances of low mileage Edelbrock heads dropping valve seats too?

Since OEM heads have been aluminum for many years now, the seats falling out of current aftermarket heads should be past history if they're following good known procedures upon installation.

I did see one post that claimed Edelbrock used threaded seats, I have no way of knowing if that is true, or not though.

I’m not very savvy about engine machining and such, so this may seem simple to some.

Would seat issues be caused by machining errors, head casting material, seat installation or actual seat quality? Is there any way to tell if the seats might give problems by inspection?

Any input would be welcome.
