I know the answer is probably no, but I wondered if anyone had actually tried and had a yes or no answer. LS1 12" brakes behind 80s GTA 16" wheels? Will they fit?

Can't say for sure, but there's a very good chance they will work.

Consider that the later B-body cars had a 12" front disc brake option and had 15" steel wheels.

Just now checked out my 2002 WS6 with factory 17X9" wheels and the caliper is almost an inch from making contact with the inner wheel, both front and rear. That would give you almost 1/2" of clearance with a 16" wheel, more than plenty.

As long as the caliper doesn't hang too far outward and hit the inside of the GTA wheel spokes I'd say you're good.

Now all you need is to make friends with a local 4th-gen F-body LS1 owner and try a GTA wheel on his car for confirmation.

Thank you so much for that response. That was the train of thought I had as well, but all the disclaimers you see make it seem like you need 22" wheels to clear 12" brakes

Have LS1 fronts (12"x1.25") and 1LE rears (12"x1") on my 92 Formula with GTA rims. Fronts are close; with stick-on weights on the inside of the rim right up by the hub, the calipers will knock them off. If you move them down to the step, they`re fine.

I can tell you the Baer 13" kit(kind of like C5 kits) will not fit "fronts" or "rears". Not sure if the C4 hybrid would clear or not.

C4 Hybrid is essentially the 1LE brake package from that era -- Corvette calipers on F-body rotors, 12"x1" thick, nice quick-change pad setup (fastened in place with pins, don't have to pull the calipers.) Rears are standard F-body 12"x3/4" from 89-92.

LS1 brakes are very similar, biggest diff being the rotors are 1.25" thick. Rears are VERY different, but still 12"x3/4".

I think the C4 hybrid uses a C4 13x1.1 rotors that has more offset (.59) than the 13x1.25 C5 rotor.

13" J55 Big Brake option for C4 "plain" C4 is 12"

This guy is the only one I know still making them. An outfit out of Austin was but stopped. Others still do for first gens.

I had thought about the C5 13" swap as well, but any of the 13" will almost surely require 18 or 19" wheels... and the only real rubber available is super-high performance gummies that last 15k miles. This is a DD/Cruiser.
