Thumbs down Tri-power carburetor

If anyone has any good links to decently priced carburetor parts , I would be be very appreciative as they are hard to find without $$$

That intake pictured is not a 1964, it’s a 1957 or 1958 that won’t fit your 1964 heads.

Note the 3 small flanges, only those earliest of Tri-Power intakes used the small body Rochester carbs for all 3. The 1959 - 1965 intakes use the small center carb and the large base outer carbs.

Thread that helps identify different year Tri-Power intakes:

So I guess my next question I guess would be, would it work to replace and match the heads or should I just get the original 64 389 intake manifold. Thanks b man

You definitely need to find a 1964 intake.

That old intake you have matches up to inferior early heads that were on engines that had a lot of differences I don’t want to get into.

Suffice it to say you’re going to need a 1964 intake, assuming the engine is still a 1964. By now a lot of them have later engines and heads that only fit 1965 and up intakes so make sure what heads you have. You can identify the heads by the casting numbers on the two center exhaust ports.

1964 GTO engines all came with 9770716 heads, pictured below.

After 1964 the intake manifold bolt pattern and water crossover design changed. 1961 - 1964 intakes will interchange however only 1964 intakes had a high rise design, they are unique.

Almost nobody is looking for the early intakes like you have. Due to the low demand they’re selling for cheap, like most of the 1963 and earlier intakes.

1964 intakes are in less demand than the 1965 - 1966 intakes because the 1965 and later intakes fit all 1965 and later heads including aftermarket aluminum heads.

Start your search, after you identify your heads.
