Default 72 formula full restoration thoughts

I have a 72 formula 400 I got with my dad to restore around 2002. We got it running but needs a complete overhaul at this point

It’s been waiting for time and money since then. I think it’s close to having both. I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best shops for body work, suspension/brakes, or engine building?

I’m past the point of being able to do a lot of it myself. I do want to get it done right and have it as close to factory as possible paint/trim/interior/engine block wise. And suspension/brakes/engine build to be performance and most likely modern at least suspension and brakes. Would love for it to have functional ram air and about 500 HP to the ground on pump gas. Possibly a 6 speed with gear ratio around 3.8 or so would be fun

I believe it’s original color is sunset orange. It had a vinyl roof but not sure what color yet.

I’m awaiting a PHS order to learn all the original details

Any suggestions are immensely appreciated

Where in TX are you?

I have a shop I use in North Houston that just did the Mechanical work on my 72 TA clone and they just put a new Tri-Power motor in my 66 GTO. I trust them with pretty much all my work

Supercar Creations is one of the top places to get a Bird restored.

They have a 3 year wait list right now. Why are they one of the best?

Anyone have experience with Texas Trans Ams in Fort Worth?

Might be a reason he has a 3 year backlog. Here’s one of them, among others. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...0&highlight=72

They look top notch even the website is very well organized. I really like the detailed documentation of ongoing projects

Curious if there are any other well known early Firebird body shops that may have a shorter wait list

I’m really wanting to avoid places like Detroit Speed for body work. Not that they aren’t talented it’s just not the style I’m wanting
