I've said it before and I'll say it again: you are the perfect 'custodian' for this car. Stellar job, beautiful piece of living history. Thanks for the updates.

Gardner Exhaust Done
Last weekend I tackled the exhaust system. Also changed the rear axle and trans oil in addition to a quick prep & painting of the rear axle to cover up the old gold paint that was applied by the original owner. Looks and sounds much better. Here's one "before" photo, some new photos and a short clip of it running... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izvZ9bZyXFY

Heater Core Fun
I started the process of doing the heater core today. I bought a new OER brand core after doing some research, but decided not to use it as I wasn't overly impressed with it. Core size was a little short in length, but their deeper end tank made up the overall length to match. Also, the soldering looked horrible compared to the original. So, I've decided to have my original re-cored instead and keeping the original dated Harrison tanks in place will be nice for this car.

Here's some comparison photos of the original and OER cores side by side.

Looks perfect !
What’s that small hose in front of the top of the radiator ? |

|
||||
That's the washer hose to the tank. The tanks are mounted on the right front core support on CA cars with A.I.R..

What a trip . Why not put it on the left side like all the other 67 gtos ?

Yes, makes no sense to me either. I see no reason why they couldn't have kept it on the left side.

In the 80's-early 90's the "rumor/rule-of-thumb" was the Fremont cars got the opaque white washer jars.
I found a few here and there - on Non Fremont cars - and they always sold fast and about 3x price of black ones. Don't know what criteria actually concerned the opaque jars. |

Interesting. Of the four '67 Fremont built/CA sold GTO's I've owned, they were all black as I recall. It would sure make it easier to see the washer fluid level with a white jar.

My Pontiac built 67 GTO has a white bucket ...mounted on the Left fender well .....is that correct ? Or should it be black ? Sorry didn’t mean to wreck your great thread

If it appears original to the car, then it probably is. Can you post a photo of it? I can't recall ever seeing one like that. It is possible that they had to use a different vendor for these during the production year and they made them in white.

The one you posted picture of from the old GTO Restoration Guide is white/opaque.
I think that "might" have been where the California/White rule came from. My opinion is more towards your thoughts of varying supplier , or varying batch. Quote:
But it might draw scrutiny. When parting cars and routinely junk-yarding back when, probably observed 50+ black ones for every white one. Sold a bunch of those things and was always on the lookout for pristine examples. |

True... I should have said "on a '67 GTO".
Yes, that photo does correlate the two. I did find an old post on this subject that the white ones were usually a later replacement part rather than a production part. That makes sense to me. |
