What am I missing here? why would a warranty tag for a long gone car be worth 164 dollars?

Well...I checked on the off chance it was for my car. If it had been - I would have paid $164 for it.

It gives you the VIN, the engine code, the engine number, the tranny number, dealer zone and number, date sold/delivered plus owner's name address.

What am I missing here ...... where does it say the car is long gone?

Maybe that 64 is still around and became separated from it’s I-O-P by a previous owner.

If I owned that particular car, that Original booklet would be PRICELESS!

I would pay that price or much more, even if it were another 64 Tempest series.

“Original Documentation“ is huge on a classic car.

Chris.

What would it be worth if the VIN was for a V8 LeMans? The eBay seller never mentions having PHS documentation. LOL.

It looks like,

Block - 548064 76 9 = Tri- Power, manual.

2237 = 2-door Hardtop Coupe.

A2 = Black lower body / Black Cordova Top. That’s what the car photo shows.

Hi Bill,

I’m not very sharp on the 64 GTO engine codes and how they are stamped on the block compared to what’s shown on the I-O-P.

Search (code 769) and there is plenty of talk on these codes.
I think 9 represents close ratio.

'8' would be for Close Ratio (if used)

The '9' was for wide ratio use with 3.90 gear (or low gears anyway- 3.70/3.90/4.30)

This seems the most likely outcome of the sale. The chances that the real car still exists and is seeking this document is slim.

It would be a good idea to document this VIN and keep an eye out for a "barn find" winner in the future.

I have one for a '66 GTO post coupe I got back in the 1970's. I got it with a bunch of other papers, who knows where the car was. I posted it on this forum 5-8 years ago and offered it for free to the owner of the car, if it still existed. Doesn't do me any good, and would be a huge help to the owner. No need to skin somebody for something that originally came with their car, IMO.
I have the POP that came with my tripower '65 GTO when I bought it in '82. That was one reason I waited over 20 years to bother with a PHS.....I already knew the car was a real tripower car. I DID find that my car originally came with no outside rearview mirror and manual steering from the PHS, though, as well as whitewall tires and custom wheel covers. The mirror and PS were added sometime before I got the car, with date-coded factory parts, so probably retrofitted at the dealer when new or near new. Glad I got the PHS just to have the info.....

I picked up a protecto plate for a 65 Pontiac Bonneville a little while ago for five bucks. I tracked the owner down and he didn’t really remember the car, he said he’s had so many LOL!
