Lower hose with aftermarket radiator?
OD of the outlet on a stock radiator for my 73 LeMans is 1.5625" (1 9/16) . The ID of the lower hose is 1.55" and normally, they fit together just fine.
The problem is my aftermarket rad uses a 1.75" outlet. I'm currently using a new NAPA 7592 hose, and while it takes some doing, I can get it over the outlet, but it stretches so badly, it will surely present a problem in short order. Anyone have a better hose that might work? I thought I might have ordered the wrong radiator, but I see C&R and Be Cool use that size outlet on a lot of their units that are drop in for these cars. My guess is I need an adapter to step down the hose.

I looked at the 7592 Napa hose and see that it's a 1.5 x 1.75. The water pump is 1.75, and since your radiator is 1.75, obviously you need a 1.75 x 1.75.
They also list a flexible hose with 1.5 x 1.75, with a length of 20", that is supposed to be the right length to fit. So, I would think you could find a rubber flex hose that is 1.75 x 1.75 and around 20" long that would work. Or if you wanted to be fancier, you could buy one of the flexible chrome hoses with chrome end covers, and are adaptable.

Thanks Steve. I sourced an adapter from Summit that will allow me to connect the two with hopefully no leaks. Some use sealant between the two. I'm on the fence, so will see how it goes.
I don't really dig the corrugated hose look, and the thought of going with a fancy chrome one was unbearable, so it got me looking for a more stock looking solution. Im not sure why I thought everything would just work here, nothing else has on this build, but thats hot rodding, right? Thanks!!

You're welcome. I agree that the ribbed hose isn't as pretty as the factory type of formed hose.
I'm wondering what the adapter you're considering looks like? Is it a metal adapter that fits over the radiator pipe with a reduced end on it? I've used rubber adapter rings that fit over a smaller radiator pipe, so a larger diameter hose end will fit and seal to the smaller pipe. But of course, that method won't work trying to put a smaller hose over a larger diameter pipe.

See if the auto parts store will let you behind the counter to look at the hoses they have hanging back there. I think mine is a piece of some other hose that had the right size and bend. I like the clean look of what you have now though. Market a new line of shrink to fit, no clamp needed, hoses!

I was thinking I could get this to work. 1.75 on one side, 1.5 on the other. Once here, I can see whats what.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/dac-76950 Shrink to fit - hmmm...I like the idea..... Will check out the store. I can only hope something there is close enough, but I'm not optimistic. Sign of the times - they dont even stock these hoses any more. The main warehouse had to deliver them.

Unfortunately that won’t work. That adapter is for putting over a smaller pipe so a larger hose end will fit, in this case adapting a 1.5 OD pipe to a larger 1.75 ID hose. You have the opposite situation, wanting to fit a smaller ID hose to a larger OD pipe, which cannot be done with one of those.

Looks like I'm back to going behind the counter! Unrelated, know anyone looking to buy a hose adapter?

What about '68-'72 A-body owners? I'm sure there are plenty of them running this radiator. What are they doing for a lower hose? I can't see the hose being that much different between '68-'72 and '73-'77, with the exception perhaps of length on the "straight" end that attaches to the radiator.

I hear ya Brian. That would be Dayco Hose E70659. It does have the same general shape, but it doesnt kick over to the frame as tightly as the 7592. It does however have 1.75 on both ends so its worth trying. My vac pump and brackets are right near the pump inlet, so I'll pick one of these up and see if it fits.
My NAPA guy....old school guy...and he keeps a book of these types of things. Hes thinking he has a number of a hose that will work. Maybe he comes up with the same, who knows? Will keep ya all posted. As a side note, there is a thread in the Heating and Cooling section of this forum that had this same discussion but with the Fbody. http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=814641

Here's one way to solve this for any folks looking to do same in the future.
I bought NAPA hose 9733. Its 1.75 x 2.0. It had a straight enough section near the 1.75 end and a proper radius to make the turn to the radiator. I cut this hose in the middle of the straight and mounted it to the rad outlet. Then I cut the stock hose replacement (NAPA 7592) at the same spot I cut the first hose - the middle of the straight - and mounted the part of this hose to he WP. In between these two hoses, I used this adapter from Filler Neck Supply. https://www.fillernecksupply.com/1-3...-44mm-to-38mm/ Barring a few clamps in the middle of a hose, it works. The upper part of the hose to the WP needs to be shortened some in this pic, but you get the idea.

That's a neat looking solution. Thanks for the update!

Neat solution indeed. I don't like the fact that it introduces another "potential leak point" to the system but if that's the only solution, that's the only solution.

Same concern here. I countered by using something better than a typical worm clamp...least I hope its better. Coolant goes in this weekend for first fire up. We'll see how it goes. It may look better than the corrugated hose, but if it leaks, its out.
