My 62 Catalina has 15X8" 8 lug wheels that have been chrome plated. I do not know if they are the BOP wheels because they were on the car when I bought it. I am guessing they were done about 15 years ago. No trim rings, and the chrome is show quality. It has 235/75/15 tires on it and it's plenty tight to the outer wheel well lip. Probably couldn't put a larger tire on this car with current back spacing.

1961 and 1962 cars had even tighter clearances than the 1963 and 1964 cars. Some years ago, before he passed away Dave Bennett (TININDN here on the board) posted details about the biggest tires and wheel backspacing that will work on 1963 and 1964 cars. He said:
Front - 15 X 7 Wheel with 225/70R15 or 235/70R15 with 4.5" backset Rear - 15 X 8 Wheel with 255/70R15 with 5" backset http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/....php?p=2385031 |

Rich, thanks, I am calling BOP tomorrow to change by order to 5.25 backspace and it I encounter any problems I can always space the wheel out but once made you cannot get any more backspace. Dave

I got the two new 15 X 8 chrome rims for my 8 lugs last night, the box said they were made by a company called Diamond Rims in Wisconsin if anyone wants to go direct and not through BOP.
BTW Wade at BOP had been most helpful answering my questions before I made the purchase. The wheels are beautiful and the chrome is highly polished on the side that faces out. If there is a downside it appears the rim is already chromed before the 8 lug insert is installed and welded. That insert is in bare metal and I will have to prime and paint it. I can do it but for almost $250/rim it would have been nice to have it ALL chromed when the process was done. I recommend these wheels to anyone and I will be buying a 15 X 7 set for the front soon. Tire Rack has a sale going on right now until the end of the month, you can get $20.00 off per tire on certain brands but they have to be "in stock", not something they have to order for you. Dave |

Wade at BOP does not recommend the 5.25 BS for the 8 lugs as he says they have fitment problems clearing the 8 lug drum. I don't know, that is just what he said. Dave |

I would use the 67 and 68 factory 14" wheel and use the Diamond Back H-78-14 tire...

I ordered my 15X7 wheels (4.25 BS) for the front of the car from Wade at BOP this afternoon, the tires (245R15 T/A radials) will be here from Summit next week. The black walls look even better on the car then
I thought they would and when I get the black vinyl top done it should be killer. Wade has been most helpful and has a lot of the fitment in his head, he knows what works and what does not. Dave |
