Steering Wheel Value
He guys, I’m looking for input in the value of a steering wheel. I have my original factory wheel that I took off the car. It was a standard interior car with dark green interior.
The wheel is in excellent condition for its age. There’s not a single crack on it and the chrome trim ring is bright without dulling. The wheel is just a little grimy from being 50 years old. Nothing a good solvent wouldn’t take care of. I am switching the interior color to black, so I’ll never need this wheel again. I know these things get expensive to have recast and I’m sure a fellow Pontiac owner could use a good oem wheel that doesn’t brake the bank. Any ideas on the value on something like this?

Can you post a picture or two? A few years back, I sold a really nice red 67 deluxe wheel for $400.

'69 - early '70's Standard Strg wheel was the base strg wheel on Pontiac A,B, F series. All molded plastic, a single wide bar from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock. Typically has at least one large crack in the hub area & at least one or two cracks in the rim. If only one hub crack & one in the outer rim, & the cover plate & horn buttons is in really nice shape, $75 retail, not much more. More cracks in the rim, price decreases substantially.
Have correctly repaired & refinished a '69-71 black Std wheel for one of my '71's. Also have a '71 blue as well as a '71 sandalwood one, both w minimal cracks, & on the to list to restore... fairly time consuming.

that is a Deluxe strg wheel, same color '69 wheel as was in my Dads '69 Executive wagon. These don't crack, they just get very sticky feeling around the rim. I've sold a few nice grain black ones with the matching cover plate & three nice color matching buttons in the $150-175 range. For some reason there are some years & colors that don't sell welL. '69-70 blue as well as '69-70 red & '70 sandalwood have also been good sellers.

Yeah this on Le is a bit sticky is all. Is there anything can can clean that sticky feel up?
I might put this up at the top of the price window and see what it fetches.

I put the one from my Judge in the dish washer when the wife was gone, came out great and I got the correct spray color and shot it myself and it came out great. You might think about doing that to yours and keeping it?Tom

I already have the replacement wheel for the car. I’m truth I never liked this wheel to begin with. It’s not thick enough for my liking and is too large in diameter.

Check ebay completed listings for prices. Actual sale prices are best predictor. Difficult to get rid of the sticky as far as I know.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give those a try and see if I can get this wheel cleaned up a bit more.

I was told brake cleaner gets the ick off, but not for long. Once these old Pontiac wheels get the sticky ick, it's almost impossible to get rid of it.

I would think the value is $75-100. I've wiped them down with lacquer thinner in the past to remove the sticky feel. Then a vinyl cleaner to bring out a good shine.

I removed the sticky from a '69 sport wheel horn button. Was pretty proud of myself for coming up with a concoction of different solutions that got it like new. About 3~4 months later, I checked it and it was beginning to get sticky again.
Can't say what happened after that.. I got rid of it and converted the wheel to a '68.

my experience in looking for these deluxe wheels in black, is that they can get pricey fast.
I decided a while ago to look for a replacement of my wheel, and being a black one, it seemed like most were being marked up because of the propensity to be installed in a GTO Judge. Thankfully a local hooked me up, but I am ever casually looking for a mint black example.

I got the sticky off using simple green Initially, and then wiping it down with mineral spirits. It sat for a while and got sticky again. I redid the same process, but it hasn’t gotten sticky for over a year. I think it stays ok once you clean it if you drive the car regularly.

Sticky Steering Wheel
I fixed the sticky issue by replacing it with a wood wheel!
