62 versus 63 Grand Prix dashes
My 62 GP has a crack in the dash top. I found molded dash tops for 63 and 64 GP’s but none for 62. (www.dashtop.com). Is there any was I can make a 63 cover fit my 62? Thanks

I can't answer the fitment question for sure. The 61-62 are similar and the 63-64 are quite a bit different. I ran into the same issue as you with my 62 Catalina dash pad. No caps or covers available. Just Dash's wanted almost $1500.00 to restore it with shipping, dying and insurance. It was just too much for a simple flat dash pad for a nice street car. I found a local upholstery and trim shop that recovered my cracked pad and did a great job IMO for a little over $400.00. It's not perfect, has a few few stretches and little bulges, but at 1/3 the cost for a vacuum molded restoration, it was fine for my purpose. Here are a few pics and if you want more info, PM me and I will share the address and contact info. Expect 5-6 months to get it done. One man shop and very busy. I pulled mine late fall and had it back in the spring.

62 is VERY different that a 64/64 dash pad.

A friend of mine repaired the dash pad for his Desoto himself. He used thin material used in boats and took his time. Looked excellent when he was done. The material is available on line in different colors.

Very interesting. I found marine vinyl on amazon. Did you friend use glue? I have used 3m 77 before. Another question. Can you remove the dash pad without totally removing the entire dash? Thanks

Id try taking it down to steel and filling it in and painting it..

Pad comes right out of a 62. A handful of phillips head screws. A row under the front edge, one in each corner on the front lower end caps, and A pillar trim and the pieces between the windshield and pad. 1/2 hour job taking it slow and careful.

Yes, he used a hair drier to heat and stretch it and then he glued it. Worked slowly and carefully.
