Oh well...we ALL learned on this one!!!
It's amazing how the combustion event backed up into the intake with the exh port being blocked. It had to go somewhere, I guess during the overlap event. Smokey Yunick wrote in one of his books about an engine he had on the dyno. he was searching for power, trying this and that. He violated his own rule of making more than one modification at a time... Of course this was an all out Chevrolet 350, likely a Nascar engine. he chenged one or two parts and put on a different set of headers. The engine was down like 50 HP. He said they threw everything at it, that might be wrong, and then thought, why not put the original headers back on it...............he didn't say, duh, LOL.......the 50 horses instantly all came back. The power diminished headers had rust inside the tubes.
