Question '70 Gp power trunk switch

Can anybody post a pic of their power trunk switch location? I'm think it was in the center console, just want to make sure before cutting for my add-on option. Thanks in advance.

Center console, green button, same diam as the easy to find '74 1/2 -early 80's small diam yellow button. Believe the hole should be there from the factory, will ck my extra GP consoles.

Wink Ditto...

should be an obvious mounting location in the console. I installed one in my '69 GTO...just seemed to make more sense to me than having to reach on the other side of the car...but that's just me. Ron

In '69 the switch has the big black bubble sticking out, just like on a '69 GTO or big car. In '70, the green button arrived. The '71 SJ I'm cutting up still had its original green button. Also parted a black '70 model J with same set-up.

Last on I parted had a totally different switch with small red push button. Might not have been original? I think I still have it!

the one I pirated form a '69 GP was very similar inasmuch as it had the same hook-up and simply had a guard around it to prevent accidental activation by items in the console bumping it. Not sure what you mean by "nothing" like it. It was a button with two prongs on the back...which by definition is at least "similar" in design and construction. What am I missing here? Just curious. Ron

Lyn, I've pulled that same switch out of Buicks. The 455 '70 model J I cut up was an Arlington plant late Feb build car, had original green button & original harness, had not been monkeyed with.

Green button for original? The used setup I bought comes with a yellow button.

On my 69 SJ the location for the button is under the cutout for the console lamp. Is a black button with the protective surround around it.

The small yellow buttons were not installed in Pontiacs till mid '74 production. I pulled literally hundreds of '68-72 A-body factory trunk releases in the 80's & 90's when I was out running yards full time. Used to get all the 2nd Gen Firebird style at local Pick-N-Pull, as well as wherever I could find them, the one piece integral style used in '69-72 GP's & same era Pontiac A-bodys, Cutlasses, 442's, GS's, Chevelles & Monte's.

Swapmeet & ebay sellers often throw together a trunk release mechanism, a piece of cut wire, & an easy to come up with small diam yellow button to make a sale. So many times, they don't have the right application hard to find style buttons that were used by each GM division in the late '60's up till the corporate useage small diam yellow button showed up.

-Buick, usually used the red bubble style button,
- Olds in early to mid 70's tended to use the chrome rectangular style plastic release button, real easy to break. I used to cut these out of Olds big car dashes in the Pick-N-Pulls with my cordless saw, then carefully release the tangs holding the switch to the plastic dash piece.
-'67-69 Pontiac used a black bubble style button. Pulled more of them out of loaded Bonne's than GTO's.
-Starting with '70 models, Pontiac used the green button.

Thanks for the replies all. Buckets in my ride and Pinion sounds pretty positive here. The hunt is on for a green button, unless some other info comes to light.

Just to respond to 'ol Pinion head's thread, I've been pulling power trunk releases out of cars since 1988 and still do today. I've use to sell power trunk setups on e-bay and but haven't put one on in a while. I'm not the typical guy that cuts off some wire and gives a generic switch with the package. Mine is completely correct.. 67-9 switch in console with protector cone or 70-72 green switch, pink wire for 69's with NOS tar tube covering at trunk hinge, early 70 pink wire with black plastic sheathing at trunk hinge, and late 70-72 black wire with black sheathing, one plastic clip on the trunk to hold wire to the trunk lid, 3 metal clips that holds the wire to the hinge, jumper power wire to power one side of the switch, and correct ends on the wires and the servo. (there is a difference between 69-70 & 71-72 GP servo's). I also include a copy of the original wiring diagram too. Maybe I'll put one on again soon. Mike

Here is a pic of the switches for p.trunk........green seems the hardest to find....only found a couple and the 1-piece p.trunk set-up is hard to find too..most common in 1969-70.

If you need more help, I have an article on our site showing the two different set-ups.
