So are they going to make it ?

I've been following this for almost 7 years and they have gone from "almost ready" to "we have to start over, no one knows when or if this project will happen".

Look at what Dynacorn has done over the last 7 years -

1967 Camaro convertible shell
1967 Camaro coupe shell
1968 Camaro convertible shell
1968 Camaro coupe shell
1969 Camaro convertible shell
1969 Camaro coupe shell
1969 Firebird coupe shell
1967 Firebird convertible shell
1970 Chevelle convertible shell
1970 Chevelle coupe shell
1947-50 Chevy pickup truck shell
1955-57 Chevy pickup shell
1967 Mustang fastback shell
1968 Mustang fastback shell
1969 Mustang fastback shell
1970 Mustang fastback shell

But no GTO quarters...

Don't hold your breath waiting. I used the skins and they worked fine. If you are waiting for these as the last piece to finish your car it will never get done. And even if they did come out and your car is all painted are you going to rip it apart to put them on.

It depends on the work being performed. Most of the time I charge less than 20.00

How do you pay for a 5,000+ sq. ft. shop and all your equipment, let alone wages and benefits plus liability insurance, etc. while only charging $20/hr? Does each employee bill for 24 hours each day?

If you pay your employees minimum wage with no benefits and your shop carries no insurance I still don't see how you can charge $20/hr and stay in business.

I have no business loans other than a very small shop mortgage. No credit cards. The building when I bought it was 1800 square feet. The three shop additions were built by myslf, employees, friends and family. One of the additions took over a year to complete. I paid for them as they were built. All the shop equipment has been paid for as it was aquired, most of it used. My employee base is young, most of them taught by me, to do things my way. I have a very experienced painter who is compensated well and helps teach the younger guys to do all of this stuff the right way. Benefits? They all get paid every friday! They are all treated very well and satisfied with thier compensation. my shop insurance is through Grundy Worldwide and costs me a little over 200.00 each month.

I bill actual time and add 6.00 to each hour billed over what I'm paying the guy who is performing the work. So if disassembly is being done by one of my part time high school helpers that make 7.50 an hour, i'll bill that work out at 13.50/hr. At the end of the week if I have 200 billable hours, that equates to 1200.00 for the shop after payroll, add in my productive time and a little profit from parts... the bills stay paid. I'm not getting rich but I love my job, employ some good people and provide competant, fair service for my clients. I am not a greedy man. I have alot of work, it seems to be working.

Thanks for sharing, Paul. I own a business with 30 employees and the overhead costs are crazy, and that's with everyone working from their home offices (that they pay for) or from their own truck, and no equipment to buy, etc. However I do provide good benefits which adds almost $10/hr to every payroll hour. My lowest paid employee gets $13.05/hr plus benefits. For me to break even I have to charge 2x raw payroll, and at that doesn't put any money into my pocket except for whatever billable time I can squeeze in of my own.

What about workman's comp insurance, unemployment insurance, social security, FICA, etc (ss and fica are 7.65% right off the top)? That would eat a good part of that $6/hr overhead, doesn't it?

Default '67 Quarter Skins

dm-fan-

I am in the same boat with regard to needing quarters for my '67 GTO. How well do those quaters fit on a '67? I have a rust free GTO in need of quarters due to someone previously improperly sandblasting the body and making the quarters all wavy. My body man said it would be better to replace quarters than to try and straighten them out. With the exception of the top corner by the tail lights, is the overall shape and fit of the sides a good fit for a '67 since they look like they are made for a '66?

See attached pic.

Thanks in advance.

You are way ahead of the game! Your quarters are easily fixable if that is the only issue. Your issue may be the bodyman... doesn't sound like he can work metal. The skins are a wavy mess. Do not let anyone cut off your factory quarters and install the skins, which will then require the lower 67 patches to be installed. The car will suffer greatly. This is a no-brainer.

Default '67 Quarters

Paul and Old Goat-

Thanks for the feedback. I will follow your advice. He is a talented bodyman as he has done other work for me and many restorations, although that is not his primary business. I will leave the quarters on and have him message them back into shape.

Have a Great Christmas!
