This post has fallen by the wayside, but I'm pulling it back into the current day.

Sincer there seem to be many here who admire/own Starlight '69 Judges I think it would be the appropriate place for me to mention that I am looking to purchase a Starlight '69 Judge.

Any help in this effort is much appreciated. I saw my first (and only) black '69 Judge back around '88 or so. It had a white interior. I thought it looked pretty cool and interesting. I guess it stuck with me unconsciously, as I'd like to have one now.

There was recently a Ram Air 3, 4-speed, '69 Judge convertible on ebay for sale with PHS docs showing it to be a real black car with white top and interior. It's got to be rare since it's a black judge convertible! Would be beautiful restored.

LH,

Not that this helps, but here's a shot of a black '69 at last year's GTOAA nats in Columbus. This was my favorite Judge at the show. The car looked absolutely perfect ...

Oh yeah, that helps!

I haven't had any pictures of black '69s until now.

I'll just keep looking.

Buquick,
Thanks for the heads-up. I'm looking for a hardtop rather than a convertible. Oddly enough, there seem to be a LOT of 'vert Judges for sale lately. I wonder what's up with that?

Is it me, or do I see the Judge decal a little off? It looks a bit high.

Back to 67blackdiamond's original post concerning the production totals for black Judges...

Albert Drake published some color production totals in his book "The Big Little GTO Book." I don't know where he got his figures from, but here's what he has to say about colors, "Of The Judges built during 1969-70, 6,833 were painted Carousel Red (later called Orbit Orange by Pontiac[sic]), 1,244 were orange, 1,067 were blue, 951 were yellow and 535 were black." As most of you know, there are several inconsistancies or outright errors in that quote, so I'm not too confident in Mr. Drake's figures. For one thing, many of the available colors (white, brown, greens, silvers, golds, etc.) were not accounted for in this listing.

I do know that Fred Simmons researched the PMD records about a decade ago and came up with a color breakdown for the 1970 GTO. In that list he states that 618 GTOs were painted Orbit Orange. It's a safe bet that nearly all of that total was applied to GTOs with The Judge option since that was supposed to be a The Judge-only color. I've long suspected that a hand-full of regular GTOs (if you can call any GTO regular) might have been ordered with the Orbit Orange hue, although I've never seen a documented example.

I do have documentation of at least one Carousel Red '69 GTO (not a Judge) having been built in the Arlington plant.
