The Devilbiss MBC Siphon Gun was the Cadillac of spray guns....check out the brass trigger and pick up tube...also the leather gasket ...and brass filter. Check out the drip proof hose I installed.....lol. This has been hanging on the wall for many years.. This thing is heavy..compared to today’s guns. I can remember spraying my 7th coat of lacquer on a 69 vette.....and my arm was about to fall off....and that dang cup hit the fender as I was spraying the hood ( the corvette fenders flared up ) .... that only happened once...but thankfully it was lacquer....let it flash ...wet sanded it ...and kept spraying. Iam sure all us seasoned guys have one hanging on the wall.

Back in the 70’s all acrylic enamel paint jobs (metallic or solid) were not clear coated.. So a little talent was involved to get the metallic (even) ...... And you lived with the boogers in the finish....folks weren’t as anal as they are now. If they wanted a shave in the finish paint job...they dug deeper and went for the Lacquer job.

This is what I have in my toolbox. It was a hand me down from my older brother. I started using this and thought I died and went to heaven when I used a gravity hvlp gun the first time. All 3 of my older brothers were in the custom van business in the 70's. My oldest bro. is an accomplished artist, at the time he would do the crazy paint jobs that were popular at the time.

Speaking of 70s customs, do you guys prefer siphon or gravity guns when spraying flake between .015 and .025?

Cool. I've seen people put some marbles in the cup of a siphon gun to keep it agitated.

If things go as planned, I'll be attempting a wild paint job with about 1 pound of flake in the near future.

In 1975 I saved for a while to buy a Binks #7. Thought I had arrived. It was a good gun in it's day.
Still have it, hasn't had paint in it for at least 20 years.
